The 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive NA0 brings the 3 Series into BMW's Neue Klasse electric era. It is the first fully electric 3 Series based on the new architecture, sitting alongside combustion engined versions rather than simply replacing them.
Neue Klasse Shapes The Electric 3 Series
The i3 shares the basic 2.5 box silhouette of the new 3 Series, with short overhangs, a set back glasshouse and visibly flared wheel arches. Its electric architecture results in slightly different proportions, though. At 4,760 mm long and 1,865 mm wide, the i3 is marginally shorter but wider than the combustion car. Height is 1,480 mm, while its 2,897 mm wheelbase stretches 37 mm beyond the ICE version. Up front, the BMW kidneys and twin headlights merge visually with the sensors. A horizontal light signature runs almost across the nose, interrupted by pairs of vertical daytime running lights. Flush door handles and hidden glass seals clean up the side view.
Wheels Range From 19 To 21 Inches
The electric i3 comes with 19 inch light alloy wheels as standard. BMW offers nine alloy or aerodynamic designs across the range, extending to 21 inches. At the rear, three dimensional horizontal lights reach into the pronounced shoulders. Each side uses two lighting elements as an abstract interpretation of BMW's familiar L shaped signature.
Panoramic Vision Reworks The Cabin
There is no conventional instrument cluster directly behind the steering wheel. Instead, BMW Panoramic Vision projects information across the lower windscreen. A 17.9 inch Central Display is angled toward the driver, while a 3D Head Up Display is optional. BMW Operating System X supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The i3 provides 420 litres of rear luggage capacity plus a 31 litre compartment beneath the bonnet. Its rear backrests fold 40:20:40, giving the electric sedan useful flexibility for longer loads.
469 HP And 400 kW Charging
The i3 50 xDrive uses sixth generation BMW eDrive technology with an electric motor on each axle. Combined output is 345 kW, or 469 hp, with 645 Nm of torque. BMW quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a 200 km/h top speed. Its 108.7 kWh high voltage battery uses new cylindrical cells and works with an 800V electrical architecture. Maximum WLTP range is provisionally listed at 912 km.
DC charging peaks at 400 kW. Under BMW's stated conditions, ten minutes at a suitable high power charger can add up to 423 km of WLTP range. AC charging at up to 22 kW and bidirectional charging are also supported. Production takes place at BMW Group Plant Munich, returning the electric 3 Series to the factory where the original 3 Series entered production in 1975.
