2026 Nissan X-Trail ST-L

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Refreshed exterior design with new fascia, LED lighting and wheel options.

  • Connected Car Services and 12.3-inch infotainment now standard across the range.

  • Service intervals extended to 15,000km with 10-year/300,000km warranty coverage.

Refreshed Design and Stronger Road Presence

The 2026 Nissan X-Trail ST-L arrives in Australian showrooms with a subtle but deliberate visual update. The revised front fascia introduces an evolved V-Motion grille framed by new LED lighting signatures, giving the medium SUV a sharper, more technical expression. A redesigned front bumper and updated rear detailing tighten the overall look, while new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs on select grades lend the car added stance.

In ST-L specification, the changes extend inside. The previous synthetic trim has been replaced by an upgraded genuine leather-accented interior, and the steering wheel design has been revised for a cleaner, more contemporary feel. Front passengers now receive 10-way power seat adjustment with two-way lumbar support, matching the driver’s seat. It is a quiet improvement, but one that noticeably lifts the cabin’s day-to-day comfort.

The X-Trail has accumulated more than 330,000 Australian sales since 2001, and this latest update appears mindful of that broad customer base. The proportions remain familiar—upright, balanced and family-oriented—but the detailing brings it closer to Nissan’s current design language.

Technology Expanded Across the Range

The most significant shift for the 2026 Nissan X-Trail ST-L lies in its connectivity. Nissan’s Connected Car Services (CCS 1.0) is now standard across the entire range, delivering remote vehicle monitoring and control through a dedicated smartphone app. Features include vehicle health reporting, maintenance alerts and theft notifications. Remote engine start is available on Ti-L derivatives.

All grades now feature a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , replacing the previous smaller display in entry variants. From ST-L upwards, the enhanced 3D Around View Monitor introduces Skeleton Hood view and T-Junction view functionality, expanding low-speed visibility during parking and tight manoeuvres.

The system allows drivers to rotate a virtual image of the vehicle or select from eight camera perspectives.

In a segment crowded with technology-heavy rivals, these updates ensure the X-Trail remains competitive without overcomplicating the interface.

Powertrain Options and Ownership Improvements

The 2026 Nissan X-Trail ST-L continues to be offered with both conventional internal combustion and Nissan’s e-POWER system. The latter delivers a 100 percent electric motor drive experience without plug-in requirements, with available e-4ORCE all-wheel drive for enhanced traction.

The emphasis remains on smooth, quiet operation and immediate response.

Service intervals for both ICE and e-POWER models have increased to 15,000km or 12 months, up from 10,000km previously.

Combined with flat-price servicing of $399 for the first five years and coverage under Nissan’s 10-year/300,000km Nissan MORE warranty when serviced at authorised dealers , the ownership proposition has been strengthened.

In ST-L 2WD form, the 2026 Nissan X-Trail ST-L is priced from $42,615 MSRP, positioning it squarely in the heart of Australia’s medium SUV market.

The result is not a reinvention, but a measured evolution. For a nameplate that has built its reputation on practicality and value, that restraint may be precisely the point.
