2025 Nissan X-Trail e-Power

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Nissan X-Trail e-Power pairs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with electric drive motors, delivering up to 211 hp.

  • e-4ORCE dual-motor AWD improves stability, traction, and confidence on varied terrain.

  • Updated cabin tech and flexible seating keep the X-Trail competitive in the global hybrid SUV segment.

Familiar Shape, Sharper Details

Nissan hasn’t tried to reinvent the X-Trail’s formula for 2025. The SUV sticks to the proportions that made it a family mainstay, but it’s now crisper to the eye. The V-motion grille and slim LED headlights give the nose a stronger stance, while the rear gets a tidier finish with horizontal taillights and a cleaner bumper design. Buyers will see more trim differentiation too, from bigger wheels to contrasting roof colors.

At just over 4.6 metres long and 1.8 metres wide, with a 2.7-metre wheelbase, the X-Trail still balances everyday usability with decent cabin space. A powered tailgate and wide-opening doors continue to make it an easy fit for family life.

How the e-Power Hybrid Works

What sets this model apart is the e-Power system. Unlike a conventional hybrid, the petrol engine never drives the wheels. Instead, the 1.5-litre variable compression turbo acts as a generator, feeding power to the electric motors. That means the driving experience is essentially electric, smooth and immediate, without the need to plug in.

In front-wheel-drive form, the single-motor setup makes around 204 hp. Opt for the e-4ORCE dual-motor version and output rises to roughly 211 hp, backed by a healthy 525 Nm of torque. Acceleration feels brisk and consistent, while top speed hovers near 170 km/h—plenty for what this SUV is designed to do.

Efficiency Without the Plug

The e-Power system’s real appeal is in the day-to-day. With the petrol engine decoupled from the wheels, cabin noise and vibration are noticeably lower than in a conventional SUV. Regenerative braking helps stretch efficiency further, and the generator only kicks in when needed.

Nissan hasn’t published final global economy figures yet, but early data points to gains over the standard petrol model. For buyers, the key takeaway is an EV-like driving feel without having to rely on charging infrastructure.

Inside the Cabin

Step inside and you’ll find Nissan has moved the X-Trail closer to premium territory. Upper trims feature twin 12.3-inch displays—one for infotainment and one for the driver’s cluster—while base versions stick to a simpler mix of digital and analog. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, with wireless connection in some markets.

Seats can be configured for five or seven passengers depending on spec, and the second row folds flat to unlock up to 1,400 litres of cargo space. Higher trims add quilted leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and even a panoramic sunroof. Families will appreciate the abundance of USB-C ports across all rows.

Safety Tech Brought Up to Date

The latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite is included across the range. That means ProPILOT Assist with lane-keeping and adaptive cruise, plus the usual roster of safety nets: emergency braking, blind-spot intervention, and rear cross-traffic alert. A 360-degree camera and enhanced parking assistance round out the package on top trims.
