2027 Mitsubishi ASX VR-e Aspire

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e Aspire is one of four variants announced for the new battery-electric SUV, joining the LS, Exceed and GSR.

  • The ASX VR-e was developed in collaboration with Foxtron and has a platform designed by Pininfarina and features exclusive exterior and interior styling for Mitsubishi.

  • Aerodynamic features include an S-Duct integrated into the front bumper and active grille shutters, while Australian availability is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Mitsubishi ASX VR e Aspire Joins New Electric SUV Range

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced the ASX VR-e Aspire, one of four variants planned for its upcoming fully electric compact SUV.

The 2027 Mitsubishi ASX VR-e Aspire forms part of a new battery-electric vehicle programme developed through Mitsubishi's partnership with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies.

Scheduled to arrive in Australia during the fourth quarter of 2026, the ASX VR-e represents Mitsubishi's return to the country's fully electric passenger vehicle market following the i-MiEV.

The range will comprise LS, Aspire, Exceed and GSR specifications, although equipment differences between these grades have not yet been detailed.

Pininfarina Design With Mitsubishi Styling

The ASX VR-e uses a Pininfarina-designed vehicle platform, incorporating Mitsubishi-specific styling at the front and rear.

Its exterior introduces a different design direction for the ASX nameplate, which has traditionally been associated with compact SUVs in Australia.

Mitsubishi confirms that the front fascia, rear treatment and wheel designs incorporate the brand's own visual identity.

Aspire-specific bumpers, lighting arrangements and exterior finishes have not been identified in the announcement [Unverified].

The manufacturer has also not released detailed dimensions for the new vehicle.

Aerodynamic S Duct and Active Grille Shutters

A distinctive S-Duct is integrated into the front bumper, directing airflow from the central opening across the bonnet.

The arrangement is designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency without relying solely on conventional exterior body shaping.

Active grille shutters provide another efficiency measure, adjusting airflow according to driving conditions to reduce unnecessary drag.

Both features form part of the announced ASX VR-e design, although Mitsubishi has not published drag coefficient measurements.

The Aspire's precise wheel specifications and tyre dimensions also remain undisclosed [Unverified].

Interior Design and Infotainment Technology

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the ASX VR-e interior receives styling details specific to the brand.

The company also identifies an immersive infotainment system as one of the vehicle's principal technologies.

However, the initial announcement does not specify screen dimensions, instrument display arrangements, upholstery materials or individual Aspire features [Unverified].

Passenger accommodation and luggage capacity figures have not yet been published in the supplied material.

Electric Powertrain and Australian Chassis Tuning

The ASX VR-e is a fully electric vehicle, with development supported by Mitsubishi's global and regional engineering teams.

Extensive Australian testing and tuning have focused on responsive handling and driving performance.

The VR-e designation references the Galant VR-4, connecting the new electric crossover with an established Mitsubishi performance name.

Battery capacity, motor output, driving range and charging specifications for the Aspire remain unconfirmed [Unverified].

Australian Launch and Market Positioning

The ASX VR-e will expand Mitsubishi's electrified Australian range under its Momentum 2030 strategy.

Its compact SUV positioning and four-grade structure indicate a broader offering rather than a single high-specification electric model.

Mitsubishi has not disclosed Australian pricing or confirmed the individual equipment packages for LS, Aspire, Exceed and GSR.

Further technical and specification details will be needed to establish how the Aspire differs from the other variants.
