2024 Mitsubishi ASX Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Updated front and rear styling gives the 2024 ASX a sharper look.

  • Cabin refinements bring better tech, comfort, and usability.

  • Remains a practical, affordable compact SUV for global markets.

Familiar Shape, Sharper Details

The 2024 Mitsubishi ASX doesn’t reinvent itself but it looks noticeably tighter around the edges. Up front, Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” design is carried forward, this time with slimmer headlights and a more assertive grille. A reworked bumper completes the package, giving the compact SUV a bit more presence on the road.

Along the sides, the changes are subtle — new alloy wheel designs and lightly recontoured bodywork. The rear now gets reshaped LED taillights and a cleaner bumper, enough to keep the ASX in step with fresher rivals. Dimensionally, it hasn’t strayed far from its well-balanced footprint, which has always been one of its strong suits for city life.

Inside: More Practical Than Plush

Step into the cabin and the story is much the same: refinement rather than revolution. Mitsubishi has improved the materials, with soft-touch areas where drivers actually interact, and a central touchscreen that now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It’s still a straightforward space, and that’s deliberate. Controls are easy to find, visibility is solid, and rear passengers enjoy generous head and legroom for this class. Fold the rear bench down and the cargo bay expands nicely — a reminder of why the ASX has found favor with small families and urban commuters. Extra touches like USB ports, improved climate control, and a handful of clever storage solutions make it easier to live with day to day.

Engines That Prioritize Efficiency

Transmission choices include manual and CVT, while Mitsubishi’s all-wheel-drive system is available on higher trims for those who need extra grip.

Driving the ASX is about predictability and ease. The suspension tuning leans toward comfort without being vague, and the light steering makes it a natural fit in tight city streets. It’s not chasing sportiness, but as a compact SUV, it delivers what most buyers want: stability and reassurance.

Safety Tech Brought Up to Date

Safety upgrades are a core part of the 2024 update. Depending on trim, the ASX can now be equipped with forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control also joins the list on certain versions, adding long-distance convenience.

Every model gets the basics: multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and a reinforced body structure designed to absorb impact. Together, these keep the ASX aligned with segment expectations, even if it doesn’t leapfrog into premium territory.
