2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 UK Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • More than 50 per cent of the S-Class, representing approximately 2,700 components, has been newly developed or revised.

  • Exterior changes include a 20 per cent larger illuminated grille, twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlights and redesigned taillights.

  • The updated range introduces a 537 hp V8, fourth-generation MBUX, standard AIRMATIC suspension and rear-axle steering.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class UK Version brings an extensive update to the German manufacturer's flagship luxury saloon. More than 2,700 components have been newly developed or re-engineered, covering exterior styling, cabin technology, powertrains and chassis systems.

Mercedes-Benz presented the revised S-Class in January 2026, marking 140 years since Carl Benz's first automobile. The changes go beyond a conventional facelift, although the established saloon proportions remain largely intact.

The official press material covers the international range. UK-specific specifications, equipment and pricing have not yet been confirmed.

Larger Illuminated Grille And Revised Lighting

The most noticeable exterior change is the redesigned radiator grille, now approximately 20 per cent larger. Four horizontal chrome bars replace the previous three, while small three-dimensional chrome stars appear within the grille.

Illumination is integrated into the grille for the first time. An illuminated upright bonnet star will also become available as an option after the initial launch.

New twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlights use micro-LED technology, increasing the high-resolution illumination field by around 40 per cent.

At the rear, redesigned taillights incorporate three chrome-framed stars. A revised boot-lid trim strip combines chrome and gloss-black finishes.

Traditional Saloon Proportions With New Wheel Designs

The S-Class retains its long bonnet, formal roofline and extended rear passenger compartment. Standard and long-wheelbase versions continue, with the latter providing additional rear accommodation.

New alloy-wheel designs include 19-inch options and AMG Line wheels measuring up to 21 inches.

A distinctive 20-inch wheel with 50 cross-spokes will become available later, using a high-pressure casting process and Tremolit Metallic High Sheen finish.

MBUX Superscreen Changes The Dashboard

Inside, the previous dashboard arrangement gives way to the standard MBUX Superscreen.

A 14.4-inch central touchscreen and 12.3-inch passenger display sit beneath continuous glass. The separate 12.3-inch instrument cluster can be specified with three-dimensional graphics.

Mercedes-Benz has also revised the centre console, door panels and steering-wheel controls.

Rear passengers can access optional 13.1-inch entertainment screens, detachable MBUX remotes and integrated video-conferencing functions.

New materials include open-pore wood finishes, Beech Brown upholstery and a leather-free Stormy Grey interior.

Revised V8, Six-Cylinder And Plug-In Hybrid Engines

The international engine range includes updated petrol and diesel six-cylinder units, a V8 and plug-in hybrids.

The S 580 4MATIC's revised 4.0-litre V8 produces 395 kW (537 hp) and 750 Nm. Its engineering changes include a flat-plane crankshaft and revised turbocharger components.

Updated six-cylinder petrol engines offer up to 640 Nm during temporary overtorque operation.

Plug-in hybrid versions provide approximately 100 km of electric driving range under the stated test conditions.

Air Suspension And Rear-Axle Steering

Standard AIRMATIC air suspension is joined by optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. Both systems support predictive damping adjustments using shared road-condition information.

Rear-axle steering is standard at 4.5 degrees, with an optional 10-degree system improving manoeuvrability.

The S-Class continues to occupy Mercedes-Benz's flagship saloon position, with particular emphasis on rear-seat comfort and long-distance travel.
