2027 Mercedes-Benz S 450 4MATIC W223

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • More than 50 percent of the updated S-Class has been redesigned or re-engineered.

  • The S 450 4MATIC receives upgraded M 256 Evo six-cylinder performance with up to 640 Nm overtorque.

  • New MB.OS architecture introduces advanced AI-powered MBUX and upgraded driver assistance systems.

A Familiar Shape Refined With More Presence

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S 450 4MATIC W223 does not attempt to reinvent the S-Class formula. It sharpens it instead. Mercedes-Benz says more than 2,700 components have been newly developed or revised as part of what it describes as the most comprehensive update within a single S-Class generation.

The overall silhouette remains unmistakably W223. Long wheelbase proportions, restrained surfacing, and minimal visual drama still define the flagship sedan. Yet the revised details noticeably change the car’s road presence.

At the front, the grille grows roughly 20 percent larger and now features illuminated detailing for the first time. The upright Mercedes star on the hood can also illuminate optionally, turning the front signature into something far more theatrical after dark.

The updated DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps adopt a new twin-star graphic together with micro-LED technology that expands the high-resolution lighting field by approximately 40 percent. Mercedes claims the adaptive high beam can now project up to 600 metres ahead under suitable conditions.

New taillights with chrome-framed star elements complete the exterior revisions without disturbing the clean, formal appearance that S-Class buyers generally expect.

MB.OS Transforms The Cabin Experience

Inside, the changes become more obvious.

The new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, known as MB.OS, now serves as the digital backbone of the S-Class. It powers the latest fourth-generation MBUX interface, integrating ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini functionality into the “Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant.

The system supports more natural conversations, contextual memory, and multi-turn dialogue responses. Mercedes even introduces animated assistant avatars, including a small digital character nicknamed “LittleBenz.”

A standard MBUX Superscreen combines the 14.4-inch central display and 12.3-inch passenger display beneath one continuous glass panel. Rear passengers also receive larger 13.1-inch entertainment displays together with detachable remote controls and integrated video conferencing capability through Teams, Zoom, and Webex.

Mercedes has additionally revised several physical controls after customer feedback. Roller-style volume controls and rocker switches return to the steering wheel, replacing some of the more frustrating touch-sensitive functions.

Refined Six Cylinder Performance Remains Central

The S 450 4MATIC continues using Mercedes-Benz’s updated M 256 Evo inline-six petrol engine. Torque output now rises to 600 Nm, while temporary overtorque functionality increases peak output to 640 Nm during stronger acceleration demands.

Mercedes says revisions include a stronger electric auxiliary compressor, improved intake and exhaust flow, and enhanced insulation measures for reduced vibration and cabin noise.

A 48-volt integrated starter-generator supports smoother stop-start operation, coasting functions, and additional low-speed boost assistance.

Ride comfort remains central to the S-Class identity. Standard AIRMATIC suspension and available E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL now feature predictive damping adjustments for longer speed bumps, while rear-axle steering improves low-speed manoeuvrability considerably.

The formula itself has not changed much.

The 2027 S 450 4MATIC still prioritises calmness, isolation, and long-distance composure above everything else. Mercedes-Benz simply refined nearly every layer surrounding that experience.
