A More Distinctive Presence For The Updated W223
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC Manufaktur W223 arrives as the most extensively revised version of the current S-Class generation so far. Mercedes-Benz says more than half of the vehicle’s components have been newly developed, updated, or re-engineered, though the overall philosophy remains familiar.
The long-wheelbase proportions continue to define the car visually. It still carries the restrained surfaces and formal stance expected from an S-Class, but the facelift introduces a noticeably more theatrical lighting signature.
At the front, the radiator grille grows by roughly 20 percent and now incorporates illuminated detailing for the first time on an S-Class. Small chrome-finished Mercedes stars embedded within the grille add texture, while an optional illuminated bonnet star pushes the flagship sedan further into ultra-luxury territory.
The revised DIGITAL LIGHT system adopts a twin-star daytime running light graphic and upgraded micro-LED technology. Mercedes-Benz claims the new setup expands the high-resolution illumination field by approximately 40 percent while extending high-beam reach up to 600 metres.
At the rear, chrome-framed star graphics inside the taillamps subtly reinforce the updated design language without dramatically changing the silhouette.
MANUFAKTUR Turns The S-Class Into A Bespoke Sedan
The MANUFAKTUR programme becomes a much larger part of the 2027 S-Class identity.
Mercedes-Benz now offers more than 150 exterior colours and over 400 interior colour combinations through the expanded Made to Measure program. Customers can specify everything from exclusive paint finishes to steering wheel variants, illuminated door sills, and bespoke upholstery treatments.
New finishes include MANUFAKTUR black sparkling with genuine glass flakes and verdesilver magno matte paint. Inside, new colour themes such as Beech Brown, tobacco brown, carmine red, and lake green introduce a more fashion-oriented atmosphere than previous S-Class interiors.
Mercedes-Benz also introduces a leather-free “stormy grey” interior option using Mirville textile materials made from linen and recycled polyester. Open-pore wood trims and metallic textile blend surfaces help soften the cabin’s increasingly digital layout.
MB.OS And Inline-Six Refinement Define The Driving Experience
The S 500 4MATIC uses the updated M 256 Evo inline-six petrol engine paired with a 48-volt integrated starter-generator system.
Mercedes-Benz says torque output now reaches up to 600 Nm, with temporary overtorque boosting that figure to 640 Nm during demanding acceleration situations. Revised intake and exhaust routing, improved insulation measures, and an upgraded electric auxiliary compressor aim to improve both refinement and responsiveness.
The new MB.OS software architecture also reshapes the cabin experience. The standard MBUX Superscreen combines a 14.4-inch central display with a 12.3-inch passenger screen beneath a continuous glass panel, while the updated MBUX Virtual Assistant introduces AI-supported conversational functions powered by ChatGPT4o and Google Gemini.
Rear-seat passengers remain a priority. Optional 13.1-inch entertainment displays, detachable MBUX remote controls, integrated video conferencing capability, and upgraded Burmester audio systems continue to position the S-Class against rivals such as the BMW 7 Series and Range Rover SV.
The formula itself stays familiar. Quietness, isolation, and long-distance comfort still define the experience. The difference now is how much digital sophistication and bespoke personalization Mercedes-Benz layers onto it.
