2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive Brings Neue Klasse Technology to the UK
BMW has introduced the new BMW i3 50 xDrive, an all-electric saloon that brings the company's Neue Klasse architecture to the 3 Series family.
The 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive NA0 UK Version arrives as the second Neue Klasse model following the iX3, combining a newly developed electric drivetrain with revised exterior proportions and an extensively redesigned interior.
Production begins at BMW Group Plant Munich in August 2026, with the first UK deliveries expected during autumn 2026.
Shark Nose Front and Horizontal Kidney Grille
The new i3 adopts BMW's Neue Klasse design language, replacing conventional grille proportions with a wide horizontal treatment incorporating the twin headlights.
A sculpted bonnet slopes towards the front fascia, creating the shark-nose profile described by BMW.
The daytime running lights and indicators form a horizontal signature, while optional Iconic Glow illumination adds contour lighting and selectable welcome animations.
At the rear, three-dimensional L-shaped taillights extend into the pronounced shoulders, accompanied by a lower diffuser element.
Long Wheelbase and 21 Inch M Wheels
The electric saloon measures 4,760 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall, with a 2,897 mm wheelbase.
Short overhangs, pronounced wheel arches and a sloping roofline establish its distinctive 2.5-box silhouette.
Flush door handles extend automatically when the BMW Digital Key Plus approaches.
BMW also highlights newly developed 21-inch M 1067 M Aerodynamic wheels, while the exterior palette includes 11 colours.
Panoramic iDrive and Driver Focused Interior
Inside, the conventional instrument cluster gives way to BMW Panoramic Vision, projecting information across the lower windscreen.
A 17.9-inch Central Display sits angled three degrees towards the driver, complemented by an optional 3D Head-Up Display.
BMW Operating System X manages the interface, while the multifunction steering wheel features illuminated Shy Tech controls.
Interior options include recycled-polyester Econeer upholstery, Veganza and Merino leather.
Optional M Sport seats and a panoramic glass roof expand the personalisation options.
469 HP Electric AWD and 400 kW Charging
The i3 50 xDrive uses a rear electrically excited synchronous motor and a front asynchronous motor.
Together, they produce a provisional 469 hp and 645 Nm.
Sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology incorporates cylindrical battery cells, 800-volt architecture and a structural battery housing.
BMW quotes a provisional WLTP range of up to 900 km and DC charging at up to 400 kW.
The system can add up to 400 km of range in ten minutes under suitable charging conditions.
Heart of Joy Dynamics and UK Availability
BMW's Heart of Joy computer coordinates propulsion, braking and energy recuperation, responding ten times faster than previous control systems.
Standard suspension uses stroke-dependent dampers, while adaptive M suspension is optional.
The new i3 also introduces Soft-Stop braking and bidirectional charging capability.
UK pricing and detailed final specifications remain unannounced, with production scheduled for Munich.
