Mitsubishi ASX VR e GSR Joins New Electric SUV Lineup
Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced the ASX VR-e GSR as part of its new fully electric compact SUV range, scheduled for introduction during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The 2027 Mitsubishi ASX VR-e GSR is one of four planned variants, joining the LS, Aspire and Exceed in a lineup developed through Mitsubishi's partnership with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies.
The new model also marks Mitsubishi's return to Australia's battery-electric passenger vehicle market following the i-MiEV.
Although the GSR designation has been confirmed, the manufacturer has not yet released its individual equipment specifications.
Pininfarina Design With Mitsubishi Exterior Styling
The ASX VR-e is underpinned by a Pininfarina-designed vehicle platform, with Mitsubishi introducing its own styling details to establish a distinct appearance.
These changes are concentrated around the front and rear fascia, wheel designs and interior trim.
The model continues the ASX nameplate, which has been associated with compact crossover vehicles in Australia for several years.
Mitsubishi has not specified whether the GSR receives unique bumpers, lighting elements, exterior colours or additional aerodynamic equipment [Unverified].
The company's initial announcement concentrates on the overall vehicle design rather than differences between individual grades.
Aerodynamic S Duct and Active Grille Shutters
One of the ASX VR-e's defining exterior features is its integrated S-Duct.
Positioned within the front bumper, the system directs airflow from the central opening across the bonnet surface.
Active grille shutters also adjust according to driving conditions, reducing aerodynamic drag when additional airflow is unnecessary.
Both technologies are intended to improve efficiency in the fully electric crossover.
Mitsubishi has not disclosed the vehicle's aerodynamic drag coefficient or detailed exterior dimensions.
Wheels, Proportions and Australian Chassis Tuning
The ASX VR-e uses Mitsubishi-specific wheel styling, although sizes, tyre specifications and GSR-exclusive finishes have not been confirmed [Unverified].
Development has included extensive testing and tuning by Mitsubishi's global and regional engineering teams.
The work has focused on responsive handling and driving performance suited to Australian conditions.
The VR-e designation also references the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, connecting the electric SUV's identity with the manufacturer's performance heritage.
Interior Design and Infotainment Technology
Inside, the ASX VR-e features Mitsubishi-specific trim and an infotainment system identified as a key part of the new model.
Electric Powertrain and Australian Availability
The ASX VR-e is a battery-electric vehicle developed in partnership with Foxtron.
Its introduction forms part of Mitsubishi's Momentum 2030 strategy, which includes expanding electrification across the company's vehicle range.
Australian sales are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, although GSR pricing and individual equipment details have not been announced.
