2027 Mercedes AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake Arrives
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake C117 takes AMG into a very different chapter. Instead of relying on a turbocharged four-cylinder, the newest performance wagon draws its strength from three axial flux electric motors that produce a combined 500 kW (680 hp). Mercedes-AMG says the result is a 0-100 km/h sprint in as little as 2.7 seconds, placing the compact Shooting Brake firmly in supercar territory.
A familiar shape with sharper details
At first glance, the CLA Shooting Brake still looks unmistakably like a CLA, but AMG has given it a far more purposeful appearance. The Panamericana grille, wider front fenders, deeper front apron and pronounced side skirts make the car appear lower and broader without changing its recognizable proportions.
The long wheelbase, short overhangs and flowing Shooting Brake roofline remain key parts of the design. One detail that stands out is the active roof-edge spoiler, which stays neatly tucked away at lower speeds before adjusting automatically to improve stability or reduce drag depending on the selected driving mode.
Performance comes from new electric hardware
The biggest talking point sits underneath the bodywork. Mercedes-AMG has fitted two axial flux motors at the rear and another at the front, allowing fully variable torque distribution across all four wheels. The front motor can disconnect when extra traction is unnecessary, helping improve efficiency during everyday driving.
Power comes from a 94-kWh battery operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture. Mercedes-AMG quotes more than 640 km of WLTP driving range for the Shooting Brake, while DC fast charging at up to 330 kW can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes.
Drivers can also choose between multiple driving programs ranging from Comfort and Sport to AMGFORCE S+ and an optional Race mode, each adjusting suspension, steering, power delivery and aerodynamic settings.
A cockpit built around the driver
Inside, AMG hasn't tried to reinvent the cabin. Instead, it has refined it with sport seats, an AMG Performance steering wheel and dedicated trim pieces that immediately separate it from the standard CLA.
The latest generation of MBUX runs on Mercedes-Benz's MB.OS platform and introduces AI-powered voice assistance using ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini integration. Performance-focused displays monitor motor output, battery status, temperatures and lap data, while AMG TRACK PACE is available for drivers who regularly visit a circuit.
Practicality remains part of the package
Unlike many high-performance models, the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake still aims to be useful beyond weekend drives. The rear compartment offers a 450-litre cargo area alongside a 101-litre front trunk, giving owners more flexibility for everyday use. A panoramic glass roof and standard four-seat layout also help the cabin feel open despite its performance focus.
With its combination of electric performance, intelligent all-wheel drive and the added versatility of a Shooting Brake body, the new CLA 45 AMG is aimed at buyers who want genuine performance without giving up day-to-day practicality. It also signals where AMG's compact performance cars are heading as the brand expands its high-performance EV lineup.
