2027 Ford Bronco Basecamp

The Bronco Basecamp combines dual motor electric drive and a usable 49 kWh battery with a 1.5 litre turbo petrol range extender.

Australia and New Zealand deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
The 2027 Ford Bronco Basecamp is officially heading to Australia and New Zealand, bringing a rather different interpretation of the Bronco name. Instead of simply adding more off road hardware, Ford has designed this version around travelling, sleeping and spending extended periods away from conventional accommodation.
It is also the first electrified Bronco. Local arrivals are scheduled to start in the second half of 2027, although pricing, final specifications and the complete variant structure will be announced closer to launch.
Bronco Shape Built Around Camping
Ford describes the Bronco Basecamp as using a refined monocoque platform. Its main distinction, though, comes from equipment integrated into the vehicle rather than attached later as aftermarket camping hardware.
The electric Pop Up Lift Roof increases interior headroom and ventilation while creating a more open cabin when parked. Ford's release identifies it with the Outer Banks model, while the accompanying disclaimer says it is standard on Outer Banks and optionally available on other select models.
Cabin Converts Into Sleeping Space
The interior can be converted into an overnight sleeping area. An available full length inflatable mattress is shaped to fit inside, and Ford says the conversion does not require occupants to unload their luggage first.
Outer Banks also receives an integrated 7.5 litre warm/cool storage console. At the back, the Wild Kitchen uses the rear swing gate to provide a fold down table for organising cooking equipment.
That makes the Basecamp's practical focus unusually clear. Ford specifically mentions outdoor activities ranging from trail running and gravel cycling to fishing and stargazing as part of the model's intended use.
49 kWh Battery With Petrol Range Extender
Underneath, the Bronco Basecamp uses what Ford calls a super hybrid system. Dual electric motors provide electric propulsion using a 49 kWh usable battery. A 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine operates solely as an onboard range extender rather than directly driving the vehicle.
Ford currently estimates a combined WLTP driving range of 800 to 900 km. Those figures are preliminary and remain subject to final testing before sales begin.
When stationary, the battery also becomes useful camping hardware. Pro Power Onboard can supply up to 6.6 kW, enough for equipment such as induction cooktops, lighting, laptops or photography gear, subject to the system's outlet limits.
With its range extender drivetrain and integrated sleeping features, the Bronco Basecamp sits in a different space from a conventional dedicated off roader.
