2026 Peugeot 308 GT PHEV

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Updated front design introduces an illuminated Peugeot emblem and revised lighting signature.

  • Plug in hybrid powertrain delivers 195 PS with up to 82 km of electric range.

  • Expanded digital services and EV focused features arrive from spring 2026.

Design and Proportions of the Vehicle

The 2026 Peugeot 308 GT PHEV builds on a shape that was already doing much of the hard work. Proportions remain compact and planted, with a low nose, pronounced shoulders, and a stance that reads confident rather than delicate. From the press images, the overall silhouette is unchanged, but the detailing is sharper and more deliberate.

The most visible update is at the front. From GT trim upward, the 308 now carries an illuminated Peugeot emblem integrated into a reworked grille finished in body color. The grille elements are spaced wider at the center and tighten toward the edges, visually anchoring the car to the road. Above the emblem, fine illuminated lines extend into the headlights, subtly widening the car’s visual footprint.

Lighting remains a brand signature. Slimmer three claw LED daytime running lights define the front, mirrored at the rear by three claw LED elements set within a black horizontal strip. New alloy wheel designs and fresh exterior colors, including Lagoa Blue, add variety without pushing the design into excess.

Performance and Powertrain Overview

The focus of the 308 GT PHEV is balance. The plug in hybrid system combines a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for a total system output of 195 PS. Power is delivered through a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission, tuned for smoothness rather than outright aggression.

A 17.2 kWh battery enables an electric only range of up to 81–82 km under WLTP combined testing, extending to the mid 90 km range in urban conditions. Charging can be completed in just over two hours on a 22 kW public AC charger. The setup is clearly aimed at drivers who want meaningful electric driving during the week, without committing to a full EV.

Key Features and Interior Impression

Inside, the 308 GT PHEV continues with Peugeot’s i Cockpit layout. A compact steering wheel sits below a high mounted digital instrument cluster, while a 10 inch central touchscreen anchors the dashboard. The cabin seems sleek and modern thanks to the high-end materials, which include aluminum trim, Alcantara on higher trims, and adjustable ambient lighting.

Practicality is reinforced by Peugeot’s configurable i-Toggles beneath the central screen, allowing drivers to reach frequently used functions without digging through menus. Connectivity has also been expanded. Over-the-air updates and wireless smartphone integration are now standard, while EV-focused services such as Plug and Charge and Vehicle-to-Load capability are scheduled to arrive from spring 2026, further strengthening the 308’s everyday usability.

Segment Context and Positioning

Targeting consumers who might otherwise select the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, or Volkswagen Golf eHybrid, the 2026 Peugeot 308 GT PHEV is clearly aimed in the heart of the European C-segment. In this instance, Peugeot's approach is transparent and reliable. The 308 series offers diesel, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles inside a single, unified design framework, saving consumers from having to choose a single electrification path.

That flexibility defines the GT PHEV’s role. It prioritises refinement and choice over disruption, appealing to drivers who want meaningful electric capability without abandoning the familiarity of a conventional powertrain. Built in Mulhouse, France, and supported by extended coverage programmes, the 308 GT PHEV reflects a measured response to a rapidly evolving market. Peugeot is not chasing trends. It is reinforcing a position it believes still matters.
