2026 Omoda 7

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Omoda 7 will enter Australia as a new mid size SUV positioned below the Omoda 9.

  • Australian showroom arrivals are expected in the first half of 2027, with pricing to follow.

The 2026 Omoda 7 is heading to Australia, adding another mid size SUV to the expanding Omoda Jaecoo range. It was confirmed alongside the smaller Omoda 4, with both vehicles scheduled to make their first local public appearance at Everything Electric Sydney from September 18 to 20, 2026.

Australian sales are expected to begin during the first half of 2027. For now, Omoda is keeping much of the technical information back, including final specifications, model grades and pricing.

Omoda 7 Takes the Mid Size SUV Position

Omoda describes the 7 as a mid size SUV and places it below the larger Omoda 9. That positioning gives the company another entry in one of Australia's most competitive vehicle categories, while the Omoda 4 will target the compact SUV segment.

The Australian announcement refers to distinctive design as part of the wider Omoda approach, but does not provide specific exterior details for the 7. Its dimensions, wheelbase, ground clearance and wheel sizes are also absent from the supplied material.

Cabin Technology Remains Under Wraps

Technology is one of the themes Omoda Jaecoo Australia is using to position its incoming models. The company says Australian customers are seeking vehicles combining design, technology, value and electrified powertrain choices.

Exactly what that means inside the Omoda 7 has not yet been disclosed locally. The supplied release gives no screen sizes, infotainment details, seating dimensions, connectivity systems or luggage capacity.

That leaves the practical side of the mid size SUV largely unanswered for now.

New Energy Powertrains Are Part of the Plan

Omoda has at least confirmed that new energy powertrain options are central to its Australian expansion. The company wants customers to have a choice of technologies depending on how they use their vehicles, with both the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 joining that broader strategy.

The release does not identify the Omoda 7's engine, electric motors, battery capacity, transmission or drivetrain. Power and torque figures, electric driving range, charging performance and fuel economy have not been released either.

Using specifications from versions sold or announced elsewhere would consequently go beyond the supplied Australian source.

Australian Launch Set for First Half of 2027

The Omoda 7 arrives as the brand continues to build out its Australian SUV range. Its mid size positioning puts it into a crowded market where technology, electrification, cabin space and price are important buying factors.

How aggressively Omoda intends to position it will become clearer closer to launch. Both the Omoda 7 and Omoda 4 are expected in Australian showrooms during the first half of 2027, with pricing and specifications to be announced nearer their respective launches.
