Once again, MINI and Sir Paul Smith have collaborated to produce a collection that feels equally influenced by modern craft and heritage. The 2026 MINI Cooper 5 Door Paul Smith Collection, which was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, continues the long-standing collaboration between two of Britain's most recognizable design brands.

This new edition introduces Paul Smith's distinctively British style into the next-generation MINI lineup, building on previous partnerships, such as the electrified MINI Recharged project in 2022 and the minimalist MINI STRIP in 2021.

“It’s not often that two icons of British design work together in this way,” Smith said. “The new colors and details will be a welcome surprise.”

Design: Precision with Personality

From first glance, the 2026 MINI Cooper 5 Door Paul Smith Collection looks unmistakably familiar yet sharper in its composition. Its proportions remain taut, the surfaces smooth and unfussy. What stands out is the restraint — Smith’s hand is evident in the subtle accents, not in loud contrasts.

Three exterior finishes define the palette: Statement Grey, a clean blue-tinted tone recalling the original 1959 Mini Austin Seven; Inspired White, a warm reinterpretation of the classic beige; and Midnight Black Metallic, carried over from MINI’s current family. Contrasting details in Nottingham Green — a nod to Smith’s hometown — accent the mirrors, grille, hub covers, and one of two roof variants.

The alternative roof features Jet Black striping in alternating matte and gloss textures — subtle, almost architectural in effect. Every edition sits on 18-inch Night Spoke alloy wheels finished in Dark Steel Flash, complemented by reworked MINI emblems tinted Black Blue.

It’s the kind of visual balance MINI excels at: compact yet expressive, familiar but with a quiet eccentricity.

Inside the Paul Smith Signature

The interior carries forward the same sense of creative precision. Surfaces are defined by knitted black textures across the dashboard and door panels, inspired by Paul Smith’s tonal stripe fabrics. Nightshade Blue sports seats, upholstered in Vescin with knitted textile inserts, underline the theme of tactile refinement.

A touch of whimsy hides in plain sight. A “Hello” light projection greets the driver upon entry, while the door sills carry Smith’s handwritten motto — “Every day is a new beginning.” Even the floor mats feature a hand-drawn rabbit graphic, another discreet signature of Smith’s collaboration with MINI design

The circular central display now features three Paul Smith backgrounds in Personal Mode, extending the designer’s identity into MINI’s digital environment.

Continuity and Craft

This latest collaboration doesn’t aim for reinvention — it celebrates continuity. Paul Smith’s connection with MINI stretches back to 1998, when he designed a special blue Classic Mini with anthracite wheels. A year later, for the Mini’s 40th anniversary, he created a one-off covered in 86 multicolored stripes.
