Neue Klasse Design and SAV Proportions
The 2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro marks the first series-production model of BMW’s Neue Klasse era. It is not an evolution of the outgoing iX3. It is a reset.
Measuring 4,782mm in length, 1,895mm in width and 1,635mm in height, with a 2,897mm wheelbase, the new iX3 retains familiar Sports Activity Vehicle proportions. The stance is upright, the glasshouse generous, the overhangs tight. Aerodynamics are notably improved, with a drag coefficient of 0.24.
The front end is defined by vertically arranged kidney grilles, a nod to the Neue Klasse sedans of the 1960s, flanked by slim headlights with vertical daytime running lights. A horizontal light signature spans the width, visually lowering the nose. In M Sport Pro specification, a Shadowline glass 3D kidney grille and BMW Iconic Glow sharpen the expression further, joined by Adaptive LED headlights and black exterior detailing.
The side surfaces are broad and clean. Flush door handles extend automatically when approached with the BMW Digital Key. Wheel arches are body-coloured, and 20-inch alloys are standard, reinforcing the iX3’s planted posture.
At the rear, a pronounced shoulder and L-shaped light graphics create depth. The roof spoiler integrates into the tailgate architecture, finishing a shape that feels deliberate rather than decorative.
Sixth Generation eDrive and 800V Charging
Powering the 2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro is BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system, built around a new 800-volt architecture. Two electric motors—an electrically excited synchronous motor at the rear and an asynchronous motor at the front—produce 469hp and 645Nm.
Acceleration from 0 to 62mph takes 4.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 130mph. The high-voltage battery offers 108.7kWh of usable energy, delivering a WLTP range of up to 500 miles, making it the longest-range BEV on sale in the UK at launch under WLTP testing.
Charging performance is equally assertive. At up to 400kW DC, the iX3 can add as much as 231 miles of range in ten minutes. A 10 to 80 per cent charge requires 21 minutes under ideal conditions. AC charging is 11kW as standard, with 22kW available through the AC Charging Professional package, which also introduces bidirectional charging capability.
Digital Architecture and Panoramic iDrive
The new iX3 introduces a digital architecture built around four high-performance computers described internally as “superbrains.” One governs driving dynamics through the Heart of Joy control unit, which integrates drivetrain, braking and recuperation functions. BMW states that 98 per cent of braking manoeuvres can be handled purely through energy recuperation.
Inside, BMW Panoramic iDrive defines the cabin. Information is projected across the full width of the windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar, supplemented by an optional 3D Head-Up Display and a central touchscreen angled towards the driver. The system runs on BMW Operating System X and supports over-the-air updates.
The M Sport Pro trim adds 10-way electrically adjustable heated M Sport seats, red-painted M Sport brake callipers, an M high-gloss black rear diffuser and additional exterior detailing. Standard features across the range include heated front seats, Driving Assistant Plus and 400kW DC charging capability.
Efficiency and Circular Production
Beyond performance, the 2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro reflects BMW’s broader sustainability targets. Approximately one third of the vehicle uses secondary raw materials. The product carbon footprint over its lifecycle is reduced by 34 per cent compared with its predecessor.
Production takes place at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, the company’s first facility operating without fossil fuels during normal production.
In market terms, the new iX3 positions itself at the intersection of long-range electric mobility and BMW’s traditional focus on driver engagement. It is the first expression of Neue Klasse in production form. More will follow.
