2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive NA5 Alpine White
By Lorenzo Bianchi December 5, 2025
The 2025 BMW iX3 50 xDrive debuts BMW’s Neue Klasse platform with Gen6 eDrive, cylindrical-cell batteries, and dual-motor AWD.
800V architecture enables up to 400 kW DC charging, adding ~230 miles in 10 minutes, with an estimated range of 400 miles (BMW AG preliminary EPA-based tests).
A new electronics platform with four high-performance computers powers the Heart of Joy dynamics controller, driver assistance, and BMW Panoramic iDrive.
Exterior design and proportions
The iX3 50 xDrive launches BMW’s new, reduced design language. Measuring 188.3 in long, 74.6 in wide, and 64.4 in tall, it sits on a 114.1 in wheelbase. Standard 20-inch wheels and a Cd 0.24 highlight efficiency.
At the front, vertically arranged kidneys and slim LED signatures reinterpret BMW’s four-eyed face. Illuminated kidneys are optional. The rear features broad shoulders, horizontal multi-level taillights, and a roof spoiler with a central recess around the updated roundel.
Optional towing capacity reaches 4,400 lbs.
Interior and cabin layout
Built on a BEV-first platform, the iX3 seats five with generous space. Cargo capacity is 30.4 cu ft, expanding to 65.0 cu ft with the seats folded, plus a 2.0 cu ft front compartment.
The dashboard is uncluttered, trimmed in textiles with ambient lighting, and wraps into large door panels. Seat options include Veganza bicolors, M PerformTex blends, or BMW Individual Merino Leather. A wireless charging pad and USB-C ports sit in a streamlined console that retains physical controls for core functions.
Panoramic iDrive and digital systems
BMW debuts Panoramic iDrive, which integrates:
- Panoramic Vision windscreen projection across the lower glass.
- A 17.9-inch Central Display with QuickSelect and customizable widgets.
- A multifunction steering wheel with haptic shy-tech buttons.
- An optional 3D Head-Up Display with navigation and automated-driving graphics.
Operating System X enables personalization through BMW ID, expanded natural voice with the Intelligent Personal Assistant, and continuous OTA updates. Streaming apps (YouTube, Disney+) and AirConsole gaming expand in-car entertainment, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Powertrain and performance
The dual-motor layout combines an Electrically Excited Synchronous Motor (EESM) at the rear with a new Asynchronous Motor (ASM) at the front. Combined output is 463 hp and 476 lb-ft, good for 0–60 mph in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.
BMW’s Gen6 cylindrical-cell battery improves energy density by 20%, reduces energy losses by 40%, and lowers manufacturing costs by 20% versus Gen5. Net usable energy content is TBA. Estimated range is up to 400 miles per BMW’s preliminary EPA-based testing.
Charging and energy functions
An 800V architecture supports 400 kW peak DC charging:
- 10–80% in 21 minutes.
- ~230 miles added in 10 minutes.
- 11 kW AC home charging (~11 hours), or up to 19.2 kW with the BMW Wallbox Professional.
The iX3 supports Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home, and Vehicle-to-Grid functions. A standard NACS port ensures Supercharger access, with a CCS adapter included. An AI-assisted charging flap automates opening and closing, and Plug & Charge Multi Contract handles up to ten provider accounts.
Dynamics and chassis
BMW tuned the iX3 for everyday comfort and precise control. A double-joint spring strut front axle with increased caster improves steering feel, while a five-link rear axle maximizes cargo space. Near-even weight distribution (48.6%/51.4%) and a low center of gravity benefit stability.
Brakes are vented discs (front 13.0 in, rear 13.6 in). Steering is electric with 2.8 turns lock-to-lock.
Heart of Joy controller
The dedicated Heart of Joy computer coordinates drivetrain, braking, recuperation, and steering. It processes data up to ten times faster than older systems, delivering smoother pedal responses and precise line holding. BMW says 98% of everyday decelerations are handled by energy recuperation alone.
Driver assistance and automation
The iX3 uses four high-performance “superbrains” to manage dynamics, infotainment, and automation. A dedicated computer for driver assistance delivers 20x the processing power of prior systems.
Standard Active Driving Assistant Plus includes Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, Exit Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, and Lane Keeping.
The optional Highway Assistant allows hands-free driving up to 85 mph on approved highways. Active Lane Change with Eye Activation uses a glance toward the mirror to confirm a lane change. Parking Assistant Plus adds AI-assisted parking and exit support.
BMW also highlights Symbiotic Drive assistance, where steering and braking support remain active even during light manual inputs, including “symbiotic brakes” designed to keep the system engaged.
Pricing, production, and launch
BMW targets a base price around $60,000 for the iX3 50 xDrive. Series production starts in Q1 2026 at BMW’s new Debrecen, Hungary plant, with U.S. deliveries scheduled for mid-2026.
The model sits in the midsize premium electric SUV segment, facing rivals offering dual-motor setups, long range, and fast charging. Neue Klasse innovations introduced here will extend to nearly 40 new BMW models and updates by 2027.
