2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Performance Parts NA5

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Introduces BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive tech with dual-motor xDrive.

  • Features a redesigned exterior with new proportions and a more expressive profile.

  • Gains a completely reworked interior with BMW Operating System 10 and the latest Curved Display.

A New Design Direction With Sharper Proportions

The 2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive arrives as the first globally launched BMW built on the company’s sixth-generation electric architecture, and the shift shows immediately in its proportions. The stance appears wider, the nose lower, and the greenhouse more tapered, giving the SUV a stronger visual identity than the outgoing model.

BMW’s new front fascia marks a noticeable change: a cleaner surface layout, slimmer LED headlights and a more sculptural interpretation of the closed kidney grille. In press photos, the grille framing is sharper and more geometric, with deep chamfering in the lower bumper giving the car a grounded look.

From the side, the shoulder line sits high and steady, creating a long, uninterrupted body volume. The wheel arches are subtly squared, and the lower rocker panels are sculpted rather than flat. It’s the kind of form where you can see BMW emphasizing tension and clarity rather than expressive drama.

The surfaces evoke elements seen on the new iX2 and Neue Klasse concepts, though BMW stops short of calling this a full design transition.

At the rear, the LED taillamps become slimmer and more horizontally driven. The tailgate is cleanly cut, with only a modest roof spoiler pulling air rearward. Overall, the iX3 has a more athletic reading, noticeably more resolved than its predecessor.

Performance Anchored by Sixth-Generation Electric Drive

BMW confirms the iX3 50 xDrive uses its latest dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric powertrain, developed under the sixth-generation eDrive umbrella. Both motors are electrically excited synchronous units, engineered to reduce rare-earth material use.

The battery is an 84-kWh pack, structured with enhanced energy density and improved thermal management. While final output figures are not listed in the press release, BMW makes clear that efficiency, long-range capability and repeatable performance are priorities.

A redesigned suspension system, wider track and recalibrated steering help the new iX3 shift toward a more engaging character. BMW says the platform upgrades improve lateral dynamics and ride composure without compromising refinement.

Interior Architecture and Key Features

The interior redesign is arguably the model’s biggest leap. The cabin is built around BMW’s latest Curved Display, integrating OS 10 and the new QuickSelect interface. The horizontal dashboard stretches with cleaner lines, while the centre console is simplified into a multi-layered shelf with a floating effect.

The dash and door structures now incorporate ambient lighting, and the materials have changed to a more technical style with precision-cut trims, thin veneers, and matte finishes. With wider cushions and bolstering adjusted for long-distance comfort, the seating geometry seems more relaxed.

The improved BMW iDrive system, Augmented View navigation, enhanced driver-assist features, and a more sophisticated voice-interaction system are among the technological highlights.

Market Positioning and Segment Context

The iX3 50 xDrive arrives into a tightly packed premium EV-SUV segment that includes the Mercedes EQE SUV, Audi Q8 e-tron and Volvo EX90. But BMW positions this model as a keystone product, bridging today’s mainstream EVs with the future Neue Klasse transition.

Its global manufacturing footprint and sixth-generation powertrain place the iX3 in a strategic role — it’s both an evolutionary step and a preview of BMW’s broader EV trajectory.
