Monterey Car Week always brings drama, but this year the spotlight fell on Ferrari’s final Daytona SP3. Nicknamed the “599+1” Tailor Made one-off, it crossed the block at RM Sotheby’s for a staggering $26 million. That makes it the most expensive new Ferrari ever sold at auction.

Unlike the usual barn-find stories or vintage racers with pedigree, this car was fresh from Maranello. It is the last of the Icona series V12 specials, dressed in Giallo Modena with exposed carbon fiber details. Down the sides runs a bold Ferrari logotype — the first time the factory has put its name in this scale on a road car. It turned heads in Monterey and clearly loosened wallets too.

Ferrari’s Tailor Made program has always been about exclusivity, but this SP3 pushed the idea further. It wears forged wheels, yellow calipers, and glossy black aero pieces. The cabin uses Q-Cycle fabric — a recycled-tire textile that proves sustainability can meet performance. The combination created a car that was both collectible and unique, and the price reflected that.

This was more than just another record at auction. The sale was held as a charity lot, with proceeds directed to The Ferrari Foundation. RM Sotheby’s even waived its premium so the entire $26 million went to educational programs. Buyers love exclusivity, but adding philanthropy gave this car another layer of appeal.

Specs weren’t the focus here, but they’re worth noting. The SP3 runs Ferrari’s 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, delivering 829 horsepower at a screaming 9,500 rpm. It covers 0–100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and 0–200 km/h in 7.4. Numbers aside, the SP3 is a reminder that Ferrari knows how to make a combustion engine feel like a piece of art.

The “599+1” was the final Daytona SP3, and it exits the stage in style — a car that proves once again that rarity, design, and a good cause can turn Monterey into a marketplace without limits.
