The 2026 Nissan Micra EV debuts as a fully electric hatchback, offering a fresh design and modern features.
-
Built on the AmpR Small platform, it shares its foundation with the Renault 5 E-Tech, ensuring efficient urban mobility.
-
Two battery options provide ranges of up to 408 km (253 miles), catering to different driving needs.
A Familiar Name, Now Fully Electric
The 2026 Nissan Micra EV doesn’t try to ride on nostalgia. It keeps the name but moves the design forward, and fast. It’s shorter than four meters, about 1.5 meters tall, and with just the right kind of urban-friendly proportions.
The face is expressive — some might say “bug-eyed” with those oval LED lamps — but it doesn’t feel cartoonish. The surfacing is clean and restrained. The rear end’s got a wide stance and tapered taillights that lend it some attitude, without going full concept car.
It looks like a proper city EV, not a compliance afterthought.
Platform Sharing, Smart Packaging
Underneath, this new Micra rides on the AmpR Small platform — same bones as the Renault 5 E-Tech. That’s not a bad thing. It means it benefits from a mature, cost-efficient architecture already tailored to small EVs.
There are two battery choices:
-
A 40 kWh version, good for about 310 km (193 miles)
-
And a 52 kWh pack, stretching the range to 408 km (253 miles)
The motors are either 90 kW (122 hp) or 110 kW (150 hp) depending on spec, which should be more than enough for zipping through town and hitting a highway ramp with confidence.
Inside: Compact Doesn’t Mean Basic
The cabin’s not luxury-grade, but it’s well laid out and surprisingly tech-focused. There’s a pair of 10-inch screens, one for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment — running Google services natively. That includes Maps and the Play Store, which is quickly becoming the norm even in this segment.
You also get 326 liters of trunk space, which expands to over 1,100 liters with the rear seats down. That’s solid for a hatch this size.
Materials look decent in photos — a mix of plastics and soft-touch bits, likely varying by trim.
Charging and Everyday Utility
Charging is quick enough — DC fast charging gets you from 15% to 80% in around 30 minutes. Nissan also bundles in Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, meaning you can plug in camping gear or top off a laptop right from the car.
It’s a subtle nod to EV users who want more than just mobility — some light utility, even if it’s not an SUV.
Where It Lands
Nissan says it’ll hit European markets in late 2025, with a price target near €25,000. That pits it directly against the new Renault 5, Fiat Panda EV, and whatever VW cooks up in this segment.
The 2026 Micra EV doesn’t scream for attention — but it doesn’t need to. It’s compact, competent, and cleverly packaged. For city drivers who want electric without excess, it might hit the mark.
