  • Toyota introduces V-Active technology in the 2024 Toyota Hilux to improve fuel efficiency, smoothness, response, and off-road capabilities.

  • The V-Active system adds electric assistance to the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, improving overall performance.

  • Fuel consumption is reduced by up to 9.5% through the combination of the engine, six-speed automatic transmission, 48V electric motor-generator, and idle-stop system.

  • The 48V system includes a lithium-ion battery installed under the rear seats, which provides power and torque assistance to the engine.

  • A new belt system drives the motor generator, enhancing drivability and reducing engine load during acceleration.

  • Energy from deceleration and braking is converted into electricity and stored in the 48V battery for later use.

  • The idle-stop system ensures smooth and quiet engine restarts and includes a selectable "long" mode for extended engine shut-off when stationary.

  • For the first time, Hilux variants with V-Active technology feature a six-mode Multi-Terrain Select, improving off-road traction control for various surfaces.

  • The 2024 Hilux maintains a 3,500kg braked towing capacity and a 5,850kg gross combined mass, preserving its utility.

Toyota has integrated V-Active technology into the 2024 Toyota Hilux to enhance fuel efficiency, smoothness, responsiveness, and off-road capabilities. This technology adds electric assistance to the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, providing notable improvements.


Enhanced Fuel Efficiency

The combination of the engine's outputs with a 48V electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery, and an idle-stop system results in up to a 9.5% improvement in fuel consumption. The smoother, quieter, and more responsive performance also benefits from reduced engine load during acceleration, especially from a standstill.


48-Volt System Specifications

The 48V system includes a compact motor generator driven by a belt system, charging a 48V lithium battery installed under the rear seats. The battery comprises 13 cells with a capacity of 4.3Ah and weighs 7.6kg. This system can provide up to 8.4kW of power and 65 Nm of torque, also supporting the vehicle’s 12V system via a new DC/DC converter.
