By Team Dailyrevs June 29, 2024
48V Technology Introduction: The 2024 Toyota Hilux Raider 48V now features 48V technology, initially demonstrated at the World Rally Championship in Kenya.
Multi-Pathway Approach: Toyota’s strategy includes diverse eco-friendly powertrains such as hydrogen internal combustion engines, fuel cell electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and alternative fuel internal combustion engines.
Mild Hybrid System Components: The 48V system integrates a motor generator, 48-volt battery, and DC/DC converter into the 2.8-litre GD-6 turbo-diesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission, improving fuel economy and powertrain smoothness.
Fuel Efficiency Improvement: The 48V technology enables a stop-start system that reduces fuel consumption by approximately 10% compared to standard 2.8-litre engines.
Off-Road Capabilities: The Hilux 4x4 and Fortuner variants with 48V technology include Multi-Terrain Select, enhancing traction on various road surfaces and maintaining excellent off-road performance.
Cost-Effective Solution: The 48V technology is priced competitively, offering consumers significant value with a small premium over non-electrified models.
Updated Design Elements: Raider grades receive a visual refresh with redesigned front bumpers, honeycomb mesh grilles, new fog lamp bezels, black side mirrors, and door handles.
Enhanced Interior Features: The 2.4 model gains retractable mirrors, while the 2.8 model features leather seats and 8-way power seat adjustment, along with advanced features like jam protection, auto up/down windows, push start, and smart entry.
Wide Range of Toyota-Approved Accessories: Customers can customize their vehicles with lifestyle accessories such as roof racks, rooftop tents, bike carriers, and more, ordered and fitted through Toyota dealers.
Connected Services: Toyota owners can sign up for a MyToyota profile to access vehicle-related information and services, including in-car WiFi capability and additional Connect services with a complimentary 25GB.
A year after the Toyota Hilux Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) demonstration at the World Rally Championship in Kenya, the 48V technology is now available in select Hilux and Fortuner models. This aligns with Toyota’s approach to incorporating diverse eco-friendly technologies.
Toyota’s Multi-Pathway Approach
Toyota's strategy includes various powertrain options to reduce carbon emissions, such as hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles (HICEV), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and internal combustion engines (ICE) using alternative fuels. The 48V technology supports this goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
