By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First GT3 with fully automatic convertible roof.

  • 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six with 510 PS.

  • Lightweight construction with manual transmission only.

A GT3 that finally goes open air

The 2027 Porsche 911 GT3 S/C takes a familiar formula and shifts it slightly.

For the first time, the GT3 is offered with a fully automatic convertible roof. That alone changes the character of the car. Not entirely, but enough to notice.

It still looks like a GT model. Wide stance, low front, clean surfaces. But there are subtle differences. The black windscreen surround and the fabric roof alter the profile just enough to separate it from the fixed-head version.

With the roof up, the silhouette stays close to the classic 911 shape. With it down, the focus shifts entirely to the engine behind you.

Lightweight proportions still define the car

Despite the added roof mechanism, weight hasn’t moved far.

At 1,497 kg, the GT3 S/C sits only slightly above the previous Speedster. That’s largely down to how Porsche has approached construction. Carbon fibre panels for the bonnet, doors, and wings all play a role.

Even the roof uses magnesium components to keep things under control. The centre-lock wheels are made from lightweight magnesium as well, reducing rotational mass.

The proportions remain typical GT3. Wide track, low ride height, and a stance that feels planted without needing exaggeration.

Interior stays focused on driving

Inside, the layout follows the same thinking.

This is a two-seater only. No rear seats, no attempt to add extra practicality. The focus is clear from the start.

Standard Sports Seats Plus come with four-way adjustment, while lightweight bucket seats are available for those who want something more track-oriented. Materials are kept simple. Black leather dominates, with carbon fibre details appearing in key areas.

The digital instrument cluster remains, but it’s been tuned for clarity. In Track Screen mode, only essential data is shown. Shift lights sit around the rev counter, guiding gear changes without distraction.

There’s still a sense that everything here exists for a reason.

Naturally aspirated engine defines the experience

The core of the GT3 S/C doesn’t change.

A 4.0-litre flat-six sits behind the rear axle, revving all the way to 9,000 rpm. Output stands at 510 PS and 450 Nm of torque.

It’s paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. No automatic option. That decision feels deliberate.

Performance figures remain strong. 0 to 62 mph takes 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 194 mph. But the numbers aren’t really the point here.

What matters is how the engine delivers its power. Especially with the roof down, where the sound becomes part of the experience in a way it doesn’t in the coupe.

Practical details sit in the background

There are a few usability touches built in.

The roof itself can open or close in around 12 seconds, even at speeds up to 31 mph. A wind deflector can be raised electronically to reduce turbulence, which makes longer drives more manageable.

There’s also an optional lightweight storage box for the rear area, adding a small amount of usable space without changing the layout too much.

These aren’t major features, but they help make the car easier to live with.

Positioned as a different kind of GT3

The 2027 Porsche 911 GT3 S/C sits in an interesting position.

It’s not a replacement for the standard GT3. It’s more of an alternative. Something that shifts the focus slightly from precision toward experience.

Priced from around £200,500, it stays within the expected range for a GT model, but offers a different way of approaching it.

For some buyers, that difference will matter more than outright performance.
