Opel finally gives the Corsa some real attitude again
The 2027 Opel Corsa GSE feels like a deliberate attempt to reconnect with something the brand used to do very well.
Fast small cars once played a huge role in Opel’s identity. The old Corsa GSi models had personality, sharpness, and just enough recklessness to stay memorable. Over the last decade, though, much of that energy faded away. The new electric Corsa GSE looks determined to reverse that.
Visually, it doesn’t hold back much either.
The front bumper is more aggressive than the standard Corsa, with larger lower intakes and sharper detailing throughout. Black trim along the lower body and wheel arches contrasts against the white bodywork, while the black roof and rear spoiler give the hatch a more planted appearance.
Small hatch proportions paired with serious hardware
The proportions remain classic hot hatch material.
Short overhangs, wide arches, chunky wheels, and a low stance all help the Corsa GSE look properly focused. Opel fits 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, while massive Alcon brake calipers sit behind the three-spoke alloys.
Underneath, the changes go far deeper than appearance upgrades.
The Corsa GSE receives a lowered sports chassis, revised axles, hydraulic dampers, recalibrated steering, and a Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential driving the front wheels. That last part matters. Many electric performance hatchbacks feel brutally fast in a straight line but slightly numb once corners appear.
Cabin mixes retro hot hatch cues with modern EV tech
Inside, the Corsa GSE takes a slightly different direction from many modern performance EVs.
Instead of chasing minimalist design trends, Opel leans into visual drama. The performance seats feature integrated headrests and a black, grey, and yellow checkered pattern inspired by older Opel hot hatches. Bright yellow seatbelts and stitching continue the theme throughout the cabin.
There’s Alcantara on the steering wheel and door panels, aluminium sports pedals, and several GSE-specific graphics across the displays.
The digital cluster and 10-inch touchscreen also include performance-focused information like G-force data, acceleration figures, and battery management readouts.
It feels playful in a way many EV interiors simply aren’t anymore.
281 hp makes this the quickest Opel production car
The headline numbers are strong.
Power comes from a fully electric drivetrain producing 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Nm of torque. Opel claims the Corsa GSE reaches 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating production Opel ever built. Top speed is rated at 180 km/h.
Drivers can choose between Sport, Normal, and Eco drive modes, each changing power delivery and responsiveness. A 54 kWh battery pack sits underneath, with Opel also revising thermal management systems to cope with repeated high-performance driving.
That suggests the company expects owners to actually use the car properly instead of just showing it off online.
A rare electric hot hatch with actual character
The electric hot hatch segment is still relatively small, but it’s growing quickly.
Cars like the Alpine A290, Abarth 600e, and MINI John Cooper Works Electric are all targeting similar buyers. The difference with the Corsa GSE is that Opel appears to be leaning heavily into mechanical feel and old-school hot hatch behaviour rather than pure EV gimmicks.
That alone makes it interesting.
The new Opel Corsa GSE will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year.
