The 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 produces 646 hp and 850 Nm, driving only the rear wheels.
AMG cuts around 170 kg while widening the body by 60 mm at both axles and fitting adjustable coil over suspension.
Production is limited to 30 examples, all sold before the car's world premiere.
The 2027 Mercedes Benz CLE 646 AMG Spezialanfertigung is what happens when AMG takes the CLE well beyond the usual special edition formula. Based on the CLE 53 platform, it is comprehensively rebuilt in Affalterbach as the second member of the Mercedes Benz Mythos Series.
The project began internally with a small engineering team and a prototype. The eventual production car loses around 170 kg compared with its donor while gaining more power, a substantially wider body and a chassis developed around road and circuit driving.
Wide Body Is Driven by the Hardware
This is not simply a CLE wearing larger fender extensions. AMG reinforces and widens the bodyshell, adding 60 mm of width at both the front and rear. Carbon fiber is used for the widened front fenders, front apron, side sills, bonnet, roof, rear apron, diffuser, boot lid and manually adjustable rear wing.
The two tone finish is unusual too: Mojave Silver Magno covers the front, changing to Obsidian Black Magno from the B pillar rearward.
Overall dimensions stretch to 4,949 mm long and 1,987 mm wide, with a 2,875 mm wheelbase. Ride height drops 22 mm at the front and 16 mm at the rear.
Aero Can Be Switched From Street to Race
A manually adjustable front diffuser offers Street and Race positions. In Race configuration it increases front axle downforce, while the center section of the carbon rear wing can also be adjusted for circuit use.
Fender louvers, headlight adjacent air channels, underbody fins and front flics form part of the package. At top speed, AMG says the complete system produces well over 250 kg of downforce.
Cabin Loses Weight Rather Than Adding Screens
Inside, AMG has removed the rear seats and acoustic insulation, reduced comfort equipment and simplified the sound system. Ultra lightweight racing bucket seats, carbon fiber door panels and a roll over bar replace the usual grand touring emphasis.
The DINAMICA covered AMG Performance steering wheel also has fewer controls. An optional Performance Package adds six point harnesses.
646 HP V8 Sends Everything Rearward
The M177 EVO 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 produces 646 hp and 850 Nm. It uses a flat plane crankshaft and dedicated engine mapping, with three cooling circuits supporting sustained high load operation. A titanium rich exhaust developed partly with Akrapovič handles the soundtrack.
AMG removes the donor car's 4MATIC+ system entirely. Power instead reaches the rear wheels through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G and an electronically controlled limited slip differential. The car reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, 200 km/h in 11.4 seconds and tops out at 310 km/h.
Its 20 inch forged wheels carry 305/30 front and 335/30 rear tires, backed by 420 mm front carbon ceramic discs. Four way adjustable coil over dampers developed with KW provide unusually detailed chassis adjustment.
Only 30 CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung examples will be made. That rarity is already academic: AMG says every car was sold before its world premiere.
