2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 Electric W540

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC Electric arrives at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027, delivering 483 hp, 590 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds.

  • WLTP range reaches up to 762 kilometers, with 800-volt architecture and a 94-kWh battery enabling up to 325km recharged in as little as 10 minutes.

  • The interior offers an optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, a certified vegan interior option, and an available Agility & Comfort package with AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering.

A Coupe-Like Silhouette With GT Proportions

Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Bastian Baudy frames the electric C-Class as "reinventing classic elegance for the electric age," and the numbers back that framing. The car rides on a 116.6-inch wheelbase, 3.8 inches longer than the combustion C-Class, with an overall length of 192.2 inches and a width of 74.5 inches. The design pairs a low, flat front with a sleek roofline and flowing rounded rear, creating what Mercedes calls a coupe-like silhouette, complemented by an iconic illuminated grille featuring 1,050 optional light points and four round, deep red star-design taillights at the rear.

An Efficiency-Focused Shape

That silhouette isn't purely cosmetic — the C 400 Electric posts a drag coefficient starting at 0.22, a figure Mercedes notes matters directly for range, since even a 0.01 improvement in drag coefficient can add roughly 2.5 percent to long-distance efficiency. Flush-fitting door handles, sealed body gaps, and an almost fully enclosed underbody all contribute to that aerodynamic profile.

A Cabin Built Around Screens and Materials

Inside, the optional MBUX Hyperscreen stretches 39.1 inches across the dashboard, described as the largest continuous screen ever offered in a C-Class, using matrix backlight technology with over 1,000 individual LEDs. Material options range from standard Beech Brown and Macchiato Beige upholstery up to optional "Twisted Diamond" pattern Nappa leather, and — notably — a fully certified vegan interior option verified by The Vegan Society, only the second Mercedes-Benz model to offer one after the electric GLC.

Power, Range and the Two-Speed Trick

Under the skin, dual permanently excited synchronous motors deliver 483 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque through 4MATIC all-wheel drive, with the front motor disengaging via a disconnect unit under light load to cut losses by up to 90 percent. A two-speed transmission on the rear axle — a genuine rarity in EVs — uses an 11:1 first gear for acceleration and city efficiency, shifting to a 5:1 second gear for highway cruising. The 94-kWh battery supports DC fast charging up to 330 kW, adding up to 325km of WLTP range in roughly 10 minutes, and recuperation tops out at 300 kW through a one-box braking system.

Practicality and Positioning

Trunk capacity comes in at 16.6 cubic feet, supplemented by a front trunk, and the optional Agility & Comfort package adds AIRMATIC air suspension with predictive damping alongside 4.5-degree rear-axle steering, tightening the turning circle to 36.7 feet. EPA electric range and curb weight are both listed as "TBA" in the technical data table, so those figures remain unconfirmed ahead of launch.
