Up to 762 km WLTP range with 800V fast charging capability.
Coupe-like silhouette with illuminated grille and star lighting.
MBUX Hyperscreen and AI-driven MB.OS redefine cabin experience.
Coupe inspired design reshapes the familiar C Class
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric W540 doesn’t stray too far from what a C-Class should look like. But it clearly leans into a different direction.
The silhouette is lower and more stretched than before. The roofline flows cleanly into the rear, giving it a coupe-like stance that feels closer to a fastback than a traditional sedan. Up front, the grille is still the focal point, now reworked with illuminated detailing and a central star that stands out more at night than in daylight.
There’s less clutter across the surfaces. Fewer lines, smoother transitions. It gives the car a more resolved look, especially from the side where the proportions do most of the talking.
Longer wheelbase brings a more planted stance
Underneath, the shift to a dedicated electric platform changes the proportions.
The wheelbase stretches to 2,962 mm, which is noticeably longer than the conventional C-Class. Overhangs are shorter, and the body sits more evenly between the wheels. It looks more settled, less nose-heavy.
That extra length isn’t just visual. It translates into more usable cabin space, particularly for front passengers, while also improving stability at speed. Aerodynamics play a big role too, with a drag coefficient starting at 0.22 helping efficiency and range.
Cabin focuses on space, screens and quiet comfort
Inside, the tone shifts toward a more immersive setup.
The optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen stretches across the dashboard in one continuous panel. It’s bright, sharp, and clearly the centerpiece. Controls are mostly digital, though Mercedes keeps a few physical elements around, like the steering wheel rollers and key switches.
Ambient lighting runs across the cabin, extending into the doors and even the panoramic roof. At night, the optional SKY CONTROL roof adds a star-like pattern overhead. It’s more of an atmosphere thing than a functional feature, but it changes how the cabin feels.
Material quality remains a strong point. There’s a mix of traditional finishes and newer options, including a fully vegan interior setup. Cabin insulation is also a focus, with the car engineered to stay noticeably quiet even at speed.
Electric drivetrain built for range and real use
The numbers tell a clear story.
Range goes up to 762 km (WLTP), which puts it near the top of the segment. The 800-volt architecture allows rapid charging, with up to 325 km of range added in about 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
A rear-mounted motor forms the base setup, paired with a two-speed transmission. That’s unusual for an EV, but it helps balance acceleration and efficiency at higher speeds. More powerful all-wheel-drive versions add a front motor that engages only when needed.
The top C 400 4MATIC variant produces up to 360 kW and reaches 100 km/h in around 4.0 seconds. Strong figures, though the focus here seems more on smooth delivery than outright aggression.
Practical touches go beyond the usual sedan brief
Beyond performance and design, there’s a clear effort to make the car easier to live with.
The boot offers 470 litres, while a 101-litre front trunk adds extra storage. That’s useful in daily use, not just a spec sheet addition.
Towing capacity reaches up to 1.8 tonnes, which is higher than expected for a sedan in this class. It suggests Mercedes is positioning this as more than just a commuter EV.
There’s also bidirectional charging capability [Unverified for all markets], turning the car into a potential energy source when needed.
Positioned to reset expectations in its segment
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric W540 sits at a turning point.
It carries over familiar traits from the C-Class nameplate but reshapes them around an electric platform. Longer range, more space, and a heavier focus on digital integration all point in the same direction.
It doesn’t try to reinvent everything. Instead, it refines what’s already there and stretches it further.
That might be exactly what this segment needs.
