2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 e Estate S206

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The C 400 e 4MATIC Estate pairs a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for a system output of up to 290 kW (395 hp) and up to 650 Nm, using a 19.53 kWh battery for up to 100 km of WLTP electric range.

  • The Estate's cargo hold holds 490 liters with the seats up, expanding to 1,510 liters with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded, plus a button-operated EASY-PACK tailgate.

  • Ordering opens 18 August 2026 across the C-Class lineup, with German pricing starting at €41,045 excluding VAT (€48,844 including VAT) for the C 200 Saloon; a specific C 400 e Estate starting price isn't given in the release.

A Wagon Body Gets the Same Facelift Treatment

The C-Class Estate's update follows the same script as the saloon's: a more upright grille with an integrated LED light guide, headlamps carrying a star-shaped daytime running light graphic, and bumpers with more sculpted, voluminous surfacing. Mercedes says the central star can be illuminated depending on market, and for the first time a light projector built into the side sills throws a Mercedes-Benz pattern onto the ground when the doors open. It's a small theatrical touch, but one aimed squarely at making the arrival and departure moment feel deliberate rather than incidental.

Proportions Built Around a Long Roofline

As an estate, the car's stance leans on its extended roofline and rear overhang rather than the saloon's trunk-heavy silhouette. Mercedes claims a drag coefficient starting from 0.26 for the Estate body style — slightly higher than the saloon's 0.24 figure, which tracks with the larger rear volume. Wheel options run from 17 to 19 inches, including a newly developed 18-inch design and two 19-inch AMG wheels for buyers leaning toward the sportier trims.

Cabin Technology Carries Over From the Saloon

Inside, the Estate gets the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch portrait center display as the rest of the lineup, along with the fourth-generation MBUX system. Mercedes describes this MBUX generation as pulling from multiple AI models — ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini — depending on what's being asked, and it now handles things like checking stock prices or ski slope conditions in addition to standard navigation and media requests. Navigation itself runs on Google Maps with a Google Cloud AI Agent layered in, letting drivers ask conversationally about parking availability along a route.

The C 400 e 4MATIC Powertrain

The plug-in hybrid variant, badged C 400 e 4MATIC, is available in both Saloon and Estate form and sends power to all four wheels. Combined system output reaches up to 290 kW (395 hp) with up to 650 Nm of torque, and the 19.53 kWh usable battery is rated for up to 100 km of electric range under WLTP testing. Mercedes pegs AC charging at up to 11 kW and DC fast charging at up to 55 kW, numbers that suggest a full top-up at a public charger could take well under an hour depending on the state of charge.

Where the Estate Body Earns Its Keep

The load compartment holds 490 liters with the rear seats in place, growing to 1,510 liters with the standard 40:20:40 split seats folded down. A button-operated EASY-PACK tailgate — triggered from the key, the driver's door switch, or a handle on the tailgate itself — and a two-piece retractable cargo cover round out the practical case for choosing the wagon over the saloon.

Positioning Against Rivals

With plug-in hybrid, diesel and petrol variants all sharing the same platform update, the C-Class Estate continues to go up against wagon-bodied rivals like the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4/A5 Avant, using electrified range and driver-assistance technology as its main points of difference.
