The 788HS Spider is the final open-top evolution of the 720S, 765LT and 750S family.
Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers 788 PS, supported by new carbon-fibre aerodynamic upgrades.
Production is limited to 200 cars globally, with just 100 Spider versions planned.
2027 McLaren 788HS Spider Drops the Roof Not the Pace
Some convertibles are built for relaxed coastal drives. The 2027 McLaren 788HS Spider has something very different in mind.
This is the final chapter of McLaren's long-running supercar family that began with the 720S before evolving through the 765LT and 750S. Rather than ending the story quietly, McLaren has produced what it describes as the definitive High Sport model. Only 200 examples will be built worldwide, shared equally between Coupe and Spider, making the open-top version one of the rarest McLarens of recent years.
Open Air Driving Meets Serious Aerodynamics
Removing the roof hasn't changed the car's purpose. If anything, the Spider looks even more dramatic.
The front end gains a bespoke splitter and a new S-Duct bonnet, while the rear features a raised active spoiler and a Formula 1-inspired diffuser. Together, these components generate 10 percent more downforce than the 765LT without upsetting the balance that has defined this platform from the beginning.
There's also plenty of exposed carbon fibre. Buyers can specify a full Visual Carbon Fibre exterior, turning nearly every body panel into a showcase for McLaren's lightweight engineering. The result is a car that looks sculpted by airflow rather than styling trends.
A Cabin That Keeps the Driver in Charge
Inside, the 788HS Spider avoids unnecessary distractions.
The lightweight carbon-fibre centre console immediately reinforces the car's performance focus, while bespoke HS branding, a unique upholstery perforation pattern and a numbered dedication plaque remind occupants they're driving something built in very small numbers.
McLaren has wisely left the familiar driver-oriented layout intact. The steering column-mounted instrument binnacle and steering wheel-mounted driving controls mean key functions remain exactly where enthusiastic drivers expect to find them.
Familiar V8 With a Stronger Voice
Power still comes from McLaren's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged M840T V8, although output climbs to 788 PS and 800 Nm. The engine revs to 8,500 rpm, helping the Spider reach 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds before continuing to a top speed of 330 km/h.
The story isn't just about horsepower. Revised engine mounts are designed to strengthen the connection between driver and powertrain, while bespoke suspension tuning, a 5 mm lower front ride height, centre-lock forged wheels and Senna-derived carbon-ceramic brakes all contribute to a sharper driving experience.
The revised quad-exit titanium exhaust may be the most noticeable update from behind the wheel. McLaren says it delivers a richer, more intense soundtrack throughout the rev range, adding another layer to the experience with the roof folded away.
A Memorable Farewell
The 2027 McLaren 788HS Spider doesn't reinvent McLaren's supercar formula. It simply refines it one last time. With stronger performance, more effective aerodynamics and production limited to just 100 Spider models, it serves as a fitting open-air finale for one of the brand's most successful generations of road cars.
