2027 McLaren 788HS
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 9, 2026
McLaren 788HS is the final and most powerful evolution of the 720S, 750S, and 765LT family.
A 788 PS twin-turbo V8, new carbon-fibre aero package, and 1,265 kg dry weight sharpen performance.
Production is capped at 200 examples worldwide, split evenly between Coupe and Spider models.
The Final Chapter for McLaren's Supercar Series
The 2027 McLaren 788HS isn't just another special edition. It's the closing chapter of a supercar family that began with the 720S and later grew into the 765LT and 750S. McLaren says the new model carries the rare High Sport (HS) badge, a designation previously reserved for only two road cars in the company's history. Production will be limited to 200 examples worldwide, evenly divided between Coupe and Spider versions, giving the car an exclusivity that matches its role as the series finale.
Carbon Fibre Bodywork With More Aerodynamic Purpose
At first glance, the 788HS looks familiar, but a closer inspection reveals extensive changes. Nearly every aerodynamic surface has been revised. A new multi-zone front splitter works with an S-Duct bonnet, a raised active rear spoiler and a Formula 1-inspired diffuser to generate 10 percent more downforce than the 765LT. Rather than chasing dramatic styling for its own sake, the updates appear focused on improving stability at speed.
Buyers can also specify full visual carbon-fibre bodywork, while gloss-black details and an optional roof scoop on Coupe models give the car a more purposeful appearance.
Driver Focus Remains the Priority
Inside, McLaren hasn't tried to reinvent the cockpit. Instead, it has refined it. A lightweight carbon-fibre centre console reinforces the car's weight-saving philosophy, while bespoke HS branding, a unique upholstery perforation pattern and a dedication plaque remind owners they're driving one of just 200 examples.
The familiar driver-oriented layout remains intact, with steering column-mounted instruments and steering wheel controls keeping key functions close at hand.
More Power, Sharper Responses
Power comes from McLaren's familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, although it has been tuned to produce 788 PS and 800 Nm. The engine revs to 8,500 rpm, sending the 788HS from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds before continuing to a top speed of 330 km/h.
The mechanical updates go beyond extra output. McLaren has revised the engine mounts, lowered the front ride height by 5 mm, recalibrated its Proactive Chassis Control III suspension and introduced centre-lock forged alloy wheels for the first time on this platform. Carbon-ceramic brakes derived from the Senna and a quad-exit titanium exhaust complete the package.
A Fitting Send Off
The 2027 McLaren 788HS arrives at a time when high-performance supercars are steadily embracing electrification. Instead of changing direction, McLaren chose to perfect a formula that enthusiasts already know well. With its lightweight construction, sharper aerodynamics and limited production run, the 788HS serves as a carefully considered farewell to one of the brand's most successful modern supercar generations.
