2027 Mazda MX-5 RF GT RS
By Lorenzo Bianchi October 14, 2026
The 2027 Mazda MX-5 RF GT RS features Zinc Green Metallic, a new exterior colour inspired by zinc chromate primer, marking Mazda's return to green paint in Australia after ten years.
Lightweight RECARO bucket seats trimmed in Nappa leather and genuine Alcantara are now standard, accompanied by additional Alcantara across the dashboard, console and door panels.
The updated MX-5 range gains cyclist detection for Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane-keep Assist, while the RF GT RS retains rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission.
Mazda MX-5 RF GT RS Receives New Interior Updates
The 2027 Mazda MX-5 RF GT RS brings a series of equipment and appearance changes to Mazda's two-seat sports car, with new cabin materials, improved safety technology and an additional exterior colour.
The updates are concentrated on details rather than a major redesign. For the GT RS, the biggest change is inside, where lightweight RECARO bucket seats have become standard equipment.
Mazda has also introduced Zinc Green Metallic across the Roadster and Retractable Fastback ranges, answering customer demand for a green finish that has been absent from its Australian lineup for a decade.
Zinc Green Metallic Highlights the Retractable Fastback
Zinc Green Metallic takes inspiration from zinc chromate primer, an industrial undercoat traditionally used to improve durability.
The colour has a subdued appearance under low lighting, while its metallic particles become more noticeable in brighter conditions.
On the MX-5 RF, the finish follows the car's compact proportions and sculpted bodywork, giving buyers another alternative to Mazda's existing colours.
Those options remain unchanged, including Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, Aero Grey Metallic, Jet Black Mica, Deep Crystal Blue Mica and Snowflake White Pearl Mica.
Mazda has not announced exterior bodywork revisions or dimensional changes as part of the update.
RECARO Bucket Seats and Genuine Alcantara Interior
The GT RS receives lightweight RECARO bucket seats upholstered in Nappa leather and genuine Alcantara, finished with light grey stitching.
The more pronounced seat bolsters are intended to provide additional support during enthusiastic driving without compromising everyday comfort.
There are changes beyond the seats, too.
Genuine Alcantara now covers sections of the instrument panel, centre console, console lid and door trim, giving the flagship MX-5 a more distinctive interior finish.
Mazda has retained the familiar two-seat cabin arrangement, concentrating on the materials occupants touch rather than introducing a redesigned dashboard.
Updated Braking Technology and Lane Assistance
Safety equipment has received attention across the wider MX-5 range.
Autonomous Emergency Braking can now detect cyclists as well as pedestrians, expanding on the previous pedestrian-only detection capability.
Lane-keep Assist has also been introduced, working alongside the car's existing driver assistance systems.
Mazda says these additions preserve the Jinba Ittai philosophy that has shaped the MX-5's driving character for more than 35 years.
No changes to engine output, suspension or transmission hardware have been announced in the supplied release.
Rear Wheel Drive and Australian Pricing
The MX-5 RF GT RS retains a rear-wheel-drive configuration paired with a manual transmission.
According to Mazda Australia's supplied price list, the G20 RF GT RS is priced at AUD $61,740 before applicable on-road costs.
The regular RF GT starts at $55,740 with a manual transmission, while an automatic version costs $57,240.
The updated range is available to order through Mazda dealerships in Australia.
For GT RS buyers, the main changes are the standard RECARO seating, additional Alcantara surfaces and revised safety equipment, with Zinc Green Metallic introducing a different finish to the established MX-5 range.
