Updated safety equipment includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with cyclist detection and Lane-keep Assist. Australian pricing for the manual Roadster GT RS is $57,240.
Mazda MX-5 GT RS Receives New Updates for 2027
The 2027 Mazda MX-5 Roadster GT RS has received a series of updates in Australia, bringing new interior materials, improved safety technology and a fresh exterior colour to the two-seat sports car.
The changes are relatively modest, but they focus on areas that matter to MX-5 buyers. The GT RS, positioned among the more driver-focused versions of the roadster, now receives lightweight RECARO bucket seats as standard equipment.
Mazda has also introduced Zinc Green Metallic across the MX-5 Roadster and RF range, bringing green paint back to its Australian lineup for the first time in a decade.
Zinc Green Metallic Joins the MX-5 Colour Palette
The biggest exterior change is the introduction of Zinc Green Metallic, a new premium paint finish inspired by zinc chromate primer.
Rather than using a conventional bright green shade, Mazda has developed a colour with a more subdued, industrial appearance.
In lower lighting, the finish takes on a relatively solid appearance. Under brighter conditions, its fine metallic particles become more visible, bringing out the curves and sculpted surfaces of the MX-5 bodywork.
The existing colour choices remain available, including Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, Aero Grey Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica and Snowflake White Pearl Mica.
No bodywork or dimensional changes have been announced for the 2027 update.
RECARO Bucket Seats Become Standard on GT RS
Inside, the GT RS receives one of the more substantial improvements.
Lightweight RECARO bucket seats are now standard, replacing the need for buyers to seek them as additional equipment.
The seats combine Nappa leather with genuine Alcantara and light grey stitching. Their pronounced bolsters are intended to provide additional support during more demanding driving while remaining suitable for regular road use.
Mazda has also extended Alcantara trim to the instrument panel, centre console, console lid and door panels.
The revised materials give the GT RS a more distinctive cabin treatment without changing the MX-5's underlying two-seat layout.
Improved Safety Without Changing Driving Character
The wider MX-5 range now includes updated Autonomous Emergency Braking capable of detecting cyclists as well as pedestrians.
Previously, the system offered pedestrian detection only.
Lane-keep Assist has also been added, extending the car's existing driver assistance equipment.
Mazda says these changes have been introduced while retaining the Jinba Ittai driving philosophy associated with the MX-5.
The release does not announce any changes to engine output, transmission hardware or suspension specifications for the GT RS.
Australian Pricing and Availability
The 2027 Mazda MX-5 G20 Roadster GT RS is offered with rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission, priced at $57,240 before applicable on-road costs.
The mechanically related MX-5 RF GT RS is listed at $61,740, also with a manual transmission.
The updated MX-5 range is available to order through Mazda dealerships in Australia.
For GT RS buyers, the main differences are found in the cabin and safety equipment, with the new Zinc Green Metallic finish adding another choice to the established roadster range.
