Lancia’s Revival Moves Into A Bigger Segment
The 2027 Lancia Gamma represents a much larger step in the brand’s return than the recent Ypsilon.
Lancia has now revealed the first details and early images of the Gamma, confirming the model has entered final testing ahead of its market launch. The car is being designed, engineered and built entirely in Italy, with production taking place at Stellantis’ Melfi facility.
That matters for Lancia because the Gamma is not simply another compact hatchback revival exercise. It is intended to become the brand’s flagship mainstream product for Europe, sitting in a more premium and technologically ambitious space.
The proportions already hint at that shift.
A Fastback Shape With Strong Presence
Lancia describes the Gamma as a crossover fastback, and the dimensions support that positioning.
At 4.67 metres long, 1.89 metres wide and 1.66 metres tall, the car sits somewhere between a traditional crossover SUV and a large fastback sedan. The roofline tapers noticeably toward the rear, giving the body a smoother silhouette than many upright electric SUVs currently crowding the market.
Even from the limited images released so far, the shape looks relatively restrained compared with some recent Stellantis products. There are cleaner surfaces, slimmer lighting elements and fewer oversized styling details competing for attention.
That calmer approach actually suits Lancia well. Historically, the brand’s strongest designs relied more on proportion and elegance than aggressive visual tricks.
The Gamma also rides on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which already underpins several electrified models across the group.
Hybrid And EV Powertrains Both Planned
Lancia is not limiting the Gamma to fully electric power alone.
The lineup will include a 145 HP hybrid variant capable of travelling more than 1,000 km on a full tank and battery combination, according to the company. That version will likely remain important in markets where EV adoption is still developing gradually.
The fully electric range appears far broader.
Entry-level EV variants will begin at 230 HP with more than 540 km of driving range, while a more powerful 245 HP version pushes claimed range figures beyond 740 km.
At the top of the lineup sits a 375 HP all-wheel-drive variant offering up to 675 km of range.
Those are ambitious numbers, especially for a relatively large crossover fastback, though real-world efficiency figures will naturally depend on final battery specifications and testing conditions.
Built In Italy For Europe
Lancia repeatedly emphasises the Italian side of the project, and that feels deliberate.
The Gamma is being positioned as a distinctly European product rather than simply another globally shared Stellantis model with minimal differentiation. Production at the Melfi plant also highlights the company’s effort to keep manufacturing tied closely to Italy as the brand expands again.
For now, several details remain undisclosed, including interior design, battery sizes and pricing. Lancia says order books are expected to open after summer, with more information arriving in the coming months.
The Gamma may ultimately become the clearest indication yet of whether Lancia’s modern revival can move beyond nostalgia and establish a genuine place in Europe’s increasingly crowded premium EV market.
