A smaller Kia EV that feels properly thought through
The 2027 Kia EV2 UK Version lands as the most accessible model in Kia’s electric lineup.
It’s smaller, clearly cheaper, and aimed at a different buyer than something like the EV6 or EV9. But it doesn’t feel like a stripped-back entry point. The intent here is pretty clear — make something affordable without making it feel compromised.
Exterior keeps things upright and efficient
The design follows the direction Kia has already established with its newer EVs.
There’s a slightly boxy shape, short overhangs, and a stance that’s more upright than low-slung. It’s not trying to look sporty. It’s trying to make space work.
Some of the more functional details sit quietly in the background. Active air flaps in the front bumper adjust automatically to balance cooling and efficiency, while flush door handles and underbody panels help reduce drag.
All of that contributes to a drag coefficient of 0.29Cd, which is relatively low for a compact SUV.
Proportions are doing more work than the styling
At just over four metres long, the EV2 is compact.
But the proportions have been set up carefully. A 2,565mm wheelbase stretches things out underneath, and the flat floor helps free up usable cabin space.
It’s also wider and taller than the Stonic, even though it’s shorter overall. That tells you where the priorities are.
This is less about exterior presence, more about what happens inside.
Interior feels familiar, but it’s laid out well
Inside, it follows the same template as Kia’s newer models.
There’s a dual 12.3-inch display setup, with a smaller 5.3-inch screen for climate controls. Physical switches are still there, which makes everyday use easier than relying entirely on touch inputs.
The tech side is more advanced than you might expect at this level. Kia’s AI Personal Assistant can handle navigation, answer questions, and interact in a more conversational way. It’s still early-stage tech, but it’s there.
Space is one of the stronger points. The EV2 seats five, with 362 litres of boot space expanding to 1,201 litres when the rear seats are folded. Most versions also include a small 15-litre front trunk for charging cables.
Powertrain is simple, but covers the basics well
The
EV2 uses a single front-mounted electric motor across all variants. Two
battery options are available — 42.2kWh and 61.0kWh — depending on the
trim.
Power outputs vary slightly. The standard-range version produces 144bhp, while the long-range version drops slightly to 133bhp to prioritise efficiency.
Performance is modest, with 0–62 mph taking between 8.7 and 9.5 seconds. It’s enough for everyday driving, nothing more.
Range is quoted at up to 281 miles on the WLTP cycle, although final certification is still pending.
Charging uses a 400V system, with a 10 to 80 percent top-up taking around 29 to 30 minutes on a fast charger.
Built to be easy to live with
It
keeps things straightforward — five seats, decent storage, and
practical features like split-folding rear seats and multiple charging
ports.
Pricing reflects that approach. The range starts at £24,245 for the ‘Air’ variant, with higher trims adding equipment rather than changing the fundamentals.
Positioned as an entry point that doesn’t feel like one
The 2027 Kia EV2 UK Version sits at the bottom of Kia’s EV range, but it doesn’t feel like a compromise.
It’s smaller and simpler, yes. But the space, range, and tech suggest it’s been designed to cover most real-world needs rather than just hit a price target. That’s probably what will matter most here.
