2027 Kia EV2 GT-Line

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • EV2 is Kia’s most compact purpose-built electric SUV.

  • Two battery options offer up to 448 km of estimated WLTP range.

  • Interior flexibility and everyday usability drive the vehicle’s design brief.

A compact SUV with deliberate restraint

The 2027 Kia EV2 makes its intentions clear the moment it appears. Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, it is positioned as the smallest dedicated electric SUV in Kia’s global lineup, and it does not try to hide that fact. The proportions are compact, upright, and honest, shaped around city streets rather than open highways.

Design follows Kia’s current “Opposites United” philosophy, but interpreted in a calmer, more functional way. The EV2 carries squared wheel arches, short overhangs, and a strong shoulder line that gives it visual stability despite its small footprint. Kia’s Star Map lighting signature appears front and rear, visually widening the car and linking it to larger EV siblings without copying their scale. Surfaces are clean and uncluttered, suggesting durability and daily use rather than ornamentation.

Interior space shaped by flexibility

Inside, the EV2 reveals where most of the development effort has gone. Kia refers to the cabin concept as a “Picnic Box,” and the description is apt.

A panoramic wide display that covers the dashboard integrates a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster into a single visual plane. The layout is straightforward and simple to read, avoiding unnecessary complexity. Fabric-based materials and linear design elements enhance the sense of space.

Practicality is central. The rear seats slide and recline, allowing rear legroom to extend up to 958 mm. With the seats pushed forward, luggage capacity increases to up to 403 litres. A front trunk adds further storage, reinforcing the EV2’s focus on everyday usefulness rather than novelty.

Electric performance tuned for urban life

The EV2 will be offered with two battery options. A 42.2 kWh standard-range version provides an estimated WLTP range of up to 317 km, while a 61.0 kWh long-range variant extends that figure to up to 448 km. These figures place the EV2 squarely in the context of daily commuting and suburban travel, with enough flexibility for longer journeys when required.

Fast charging supports a 10–80 percent recharge in around 29 to 30 minutes, depending on battery size, and AC charging up to 22 kW is supported. The chassis uses a rear coupled torsion beam axle designed to reduce vibration on uneven surfaces, while column-type motor-driven power steering is tuned for low-speed agility and ease of manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Technology that stays in the background

Driver assistance systems include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2, Hands-on Detection, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. EV-specific features such as EV Route Planner, Plug & Charge, Vehicle-to-Load, and Vehicle-to-Grid functionality are also included, positioning the EV2 as a fully developed electric vehicle rather than a simplified entry model.

For Kia, the EV2 is a measured move rather than a dramatic one. It is designed to lower the barrier to electric ownership through size, space efficiency, and thoughtful design. The 2027 Kia EV2 does not promise transformation. Instead, it offers something more grounded: an electric SUV shaped around how people actually use their cars.
