2027 Hyundai Tucson US Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Longer, wider and taller body brings a 2,785 mm wheelbase and more cabin space.

  • Hybrid targets up to 42 mpg, while the PHEV produces 292 PS with 81 km EV range.

  • Pleos Connect introduces up to a 17 inch touchscreen, Gleo AI and OTA updates.

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson arrives as a complete redesign of Hyundai's best selling SUV, and this time the visual change is easy to spot. Revealed in New York, the new Tucson adopts Hyundai's Art of Steel design language, grows in several key dimensions and introduces a heavily revised digital cabin.

Korea gets the new model first later in 2026. North America, Europe and other global markets follow during 2027.

Muscular Fenders Reshape The Tucson

The exterior moves toward a more upright, solid appearance. Pronounced fenders sit against relatively restrained door surfaces, while crisp lines break up the body without the complex surfacing seen on the previous generation.

Lighting is a major part of the change. H Edge lighting combines indirect centre illumination with edge lighting to visually widen the nose. At the rear, sculptural Prism Rear Lamps use an intricate internal pattern inside a transparent lens.

Available Micro Pixel Lighting goes further with 25,600 individual LED pixels, although it is limited to the short wheelbase model.

Larger Body Creates More Cabin Space

The long wheelbase Tucson measures 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall. Compared with its predecessor, that is an increase of 60 mm, 40 mm and 20 mm respectively. Wheelbase grows 30 mm to 2,785 mm.

Wheel choices span 17 to 20 inches, while maximum tyre size is 235/50 R20.

The larger footprint contributes to useful passenger space. Hyundai quotes 1,064 mm of rear legroom and 1,067 litres of cargo capacity using its domestic SAE measurement.

Pleos Connect Dominates The Dashboard

Inside, Hyundai has moved away from a conventional dashboard layout. A two layer instrument panel combines a horizontal upper section with a deep storage tray underneath.

A 9.9 inch slim driver display sits above the steering column, paired with either a 12.9 or 17 inch central touchscreen. Pleos Connect runs on Android Automotive OS and supports OTA updates, third party apps and Gleo AI conversational functions.

Physical buttons remain for commonly used audio and climate controls. Dual 15W wireless charging pads are also available.

Hybrid Targets Up To 42 MPG

Powertrain choice remains broad. The 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine produces 184 hp in US specification and uses an eight speed automatic.

The hybrid combines P1 and P2 electric motors with a 1.49 kWh battery, producing 233 hp in US specification. Hyundai targets up to 42 mpg for the North American front wheel drive model on 17 inch wheels, with 0 to 60 mph taking 8.5 seconds.

A plug in hybrid is offered in selected markets with 292 PS, a 17.1 kWh battery and an estimated 81 km electric range.

XRT PRO Adds Off Road Hardware

For buyers wanting more capability, the XRT PRO adds all wheel drive, all terrain tyres, recovery hooks and 210 mm of ground clearance, 30 mm more than the standard Tucson.

Smart Terrain Assist assesses traction conditions in real time, while Target Speed Control manages acceleration and braking between 2 and 25 km/h.

The wider Tucson range remains a five seat SUV, but its expanded dimensions, hybrid focus and new digital architecture give Hyundai considerably more to work with in the crowded compact SUV segment.
