2027 Hyundai Tucson

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The 2027 Tucson grows to 185 inches long and 75 inches wide (up 2.3 and 1.5 inches respectively over the outgoing model), with a wheelbase stretched 1.1 inches to 109.6 inches, adding 1.1 inches of second-row headroom.

  • The redesign replaces the current model's twin curved displays with a single centrally-mounted, tablet-style Pleos infotainment system, alongside a narrower gauge cluster and a squircle-shaped four-spoke steering wheel.

  • A rugged XRT variant has been previewed with a distinct, boxier front end; Hyundai hasn't released powertrain details yet, with more expected ahead of the global debut.

A Sharper, Boxier Break From the Outgoing Design

Hyundai isn't playing it safe with the redesigned Tucson. According to reporting on the reveal, the new model departs sharply from its curvier predecessor's rounded surfacing, taking cues from the Crater Concept and following a similar design shift already seen on the redesigned Elantra. The front end gets a full-width LED light bar paired with vertical daytime running lights, sitting above a boxy bumper and slim upper and lower grilles — a much more angular face than the outgoing Tucson's swooping lines.

Bigger in Every Dimension

The proportions have grown alongside the design language. The new Tucson measures 185 inches long, 2.3 inches more than before, and 75 inches wide, up 1.5 inches. The wheelbase stretches to 109.6 inches, a 1.1-inch increase that Hyundai says translates directly into cabin space — specifically 1.1 inches of added second-row headroom, credited to the longer wheelbase and a lengthened roofline.

Squared-Off Surfacing Down the Side and Rear

From the side, reporting describes the new Tucson as looking distinct from other SUVs on the road, with squared-off front and rear quarter panels, sharp character lines running across the doors, and noticeably beefier rocker panels. The rear picks up the same light-bar treatment as the front, combined with narrow, vertical LED taillights that echo the front DRL layout.

An Interior Built Around a Single Tablet Screen

Inside, Hyundai has moved away from the current-generation Tucson's twin curved-display setup in favor of a centrally-mounted, tablet-style system Hyundai calls Pleos. Whether this reads as a step forward or a step back is a matter of some debate in the reporting itself — one assessment calls it a possible downgrade from the existing dual-screen layout, though it notes this direction is becoming increasingly common across the industry. The dashboard incorporates ambient lighting and soft-touch materials, with a stacked center console and transmission tunnel that includes wireless phone charging. A narrow digital gauge cluster and a squircle-shaped four-spoke steering wheel sit ahead of the driver.

A Rugged XRT Variant, and Powertrain Details Still Pending

Alongside the standard model, Hyundai has previewed an XRT variant with its own distinct, boxier front-end styling aimed at a more rugged look. What isn't yet known is what will power any version of the new Tucson — no engine, hybrid, or transmission details have been released, with more information expected in the roughly two months leading up to the global debut.
