2027 Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Ferrari introduces the new Manuale By-Wire system with a clutch-by-wire pedal.

  • Naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 delivers 830 cv and revs to 9,500 rpm.

  • Production is limited to 1,499 examples with exclusive Tailor Made details.

2027 Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale Returns to Three Pedals

For years, Ferrari has relied on lightning-fast dual-clutch gearboxes to deliver maximum performance. The 2027 Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale takes a different path. It doesn't abandon modern technology, but it does bring back something many enthusiasts thought had disappeared for good: the experience of shifting gears with a lever and working a clutch pedal.

This isn't a conventional manual gearbox, though. Ferrari has developed an entirely new Manuale By-Wire system that combines digital precision with the physical interaction drivers associate with the company's classic grand tourers. It's a fresh interpretation of an old idea, created for people who enjoy being an active part of every gear change.

Familiar Ferrari Style With Exclusive Details

Visually, the 12Cilindri Manuale stays close to the standard coupe, and that's no bad thing. The long bonnet, compact cabin and clean bodywork remain untouched, preserving the proportions that define Ferrari's front-engined V12 grand tourers.

Look a little closer, however, and the differences begin to appear. A laser-etched side badge identifies the special edition, while subtle pinstripe detailing on the front splitter and rear wings pays tribute to the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB4. Exclusive forged five-spoke wheels, engraved aluminium door sills and Tailor Made finishes complete a package designed to feel special without becoming flashy.

A Cabin Built Around the Driver

The biggest transformation happens once you open the door.

Ferrari has redesigned the centre console around an iconic open metal gear gate, complete with a polished aluminium shift knob and a traditional three-pedal layout. The lever, gate and pedals aren't decorative touches—they're central to how the car is driven. Even the seating position and console have been adjusted to make manual gear changes feel more natural.

The clutch pedal itself is part of Ferrari's new by-wire system. Instead of using a conventional mechanical linkage, it converts pedal movement into digital signals while carefully recreating the resistance and feedback of a traditional manual transmission. If a shift isn't perfectly timed, the driver may even experience the familiar hesitation or slight jolt associated with classic manual sports cars.

A V12 That Loves to Rev

Power still comes from Ferrari's naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, producing 830 cv and 678 Nm of torque. Peak engine speed reaches an astonishing 9,500 rpm, giving the Manuale plenty of opportunity to let drivers enjoy every gear rather than rushing through them.

Interestingly, the underlying eight-speed dual-clutch transmission remains in place. Ferrari has focused its engineering effort on the driver's controls rather than redesigning the gearbox itself. That means owners can still switch to automatic mode whenever they want a more relaxed drive, making the car equally comfortable in traffic or on a long journey.

A Ferrari for Drivers Who Miss the Ritual

Only 1,499 examples of the 2027 Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale will be built, a number chosen to reference the displacement of Ferrari's very first V12 engine from 1947. Rather than chasing quicker lap times, this limited edition celebrates something increasingly rare in modern performance cars: the satisfaction of making every shift yourself. It proves that, even in an age dominated by electronics, Ferrari still believes the simple act of changing gear can be one of the most rewarding parts of driving.
