A Roadster Built Against the Grain

Bovensiepen has pulled back the cover on the Spider, a two-seater roadster the German manufacturer is positioning as a deliberate rejection of where much of the industry has gone. Andreas Bovensiepen, one of the company's managing directors, pointed to his time on the BMW Z8 development team in the late 1990s as the root of his fascination with light, responsive sports cars. The Spider is the third model from the Buchloe-based brand, and the company frames it as a return to a vehicle class it says is disappearing: the lightweight, purist two-seater.

Exterior Design and Stance

The bodywork follows a familiar sports car formula — long bonnet, cockpit pushed rearward, short overhangs — built around proportions the company says are typical of a front-engined layout. The exterior was developed with designer Frank Stephenson, who also worked on the earlier Bovensiepen 05 GT. A high-gloss black front splitter with twin tips, large wheel arch vents, side skirts and a rear diffuser give the car its visual signature, while an integrated rear spoiler stretches the tail for a longer, lower silhouette. Bovensiepen's 20-inch forged wheels, built with ten long double spokes, are also engineered specifically to save weight.

Interior Space and Technology

Inside, the Spider sticks to a straightforward but well-equipped format. Standard upholstery is Vernasca leather with Alcantara seat panels, and the steering wheel is trimmed in Lavalina leather. A heated steering wheel, comfort access and a Harman Kardon surround sound system come standard. Buyers chasing a higher trim level can step up to a full leather interior from Bovensiepen's in-house saddlery, which also offers custom Alcantara lining, personalized headrest embossing and embroidered detailing. Each of the 99 cars carries a numbered production plaque.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the long bonnet sits a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six, producing 320 kW (435 hp) and 580 Nm of torque. Bovensiepen says the priority wasn't outright power but a power-to-weight ratio of 3.6 kg per horsepower and a smooth delivery curve, helped by a reworked intake with an added ram-air channel and a larger, airflow-optimized intake silencer. The sports exhaust system was also retuned for both flow and sound. Zero to 100 km/h comes in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 260 km/h — or 295 km/h with the optional Performance Package, which adds a finned aluminum rear differential cover and an underbody V-brace for extra rigidity. Power reaches the rear wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires — 255/35 ZR20 front, 295/30 ZR20 rear — are paired with retuned dampers and longer rear auxiliary springs, while an optional braking package brings 4-piston front calipers and perforated discs measuring 395 mm up front and 345 mm at the rear.

Everyday Usability

Despite its focus, the Spider isn't purely a track toy. Bovensiepen lists a boot capacity of 281 litres, enough, the company says, for a multi-day tour rather than just a short weekend drive. The open-top layout is also built around the driving experience itself — the six-cylinder's exhaust note, routed through four tailpipes, is said to come through more distinctly with the roof down.

Availability

Orders for the Bovensiepen Spider are open immediately, with first deliveries scheduled for the end of the first quarter of 2027. Pricing starts at 115,500 euros, including 19 percent German sales tax, ex-factory Buchloe. Buyers can choose from five metallic finishes — Sapphire Black, Sanremo Green, Skyscraper Grey, Thundernight and Frozen Grey II — or request a custom color through the manufactory.
