2027 BMW iX5 60 Debuts With 800V Electric Platform
BMW has revealed the 2027 BMW iX5 60, introducing the first battery-electric version of its long-running X5 SUV. Built around the company's sixth-generation eDrive technology, the new model also becomes the first X5 to use an 800-volt electrical architecture. It joins an expanded X5 lineup that includes petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, and a future hydrogen-powered variant.
Exterior adopts a cleaner BMW identity
The latest X5 keeps its familiar SUV proportions but introduces a noticeably cleaner appearance inspired by BMW's Neue Klasse design language. A taller front fascia features the vertically oriented illuminated kidney grille alongside newly developed double-X lighting elements, while flatter body surfaces give the SUV a more monolithic look.
From the side, the new BMW Winglet door handles are integrated into the pillars rather than the doors themselves, creating uninterrupted body panels. At the rear, slim full-width lighting stretches across the tailgate, emphasizing the SUV's broad stance. Buyers will also have access to wheel sizes up to 23 inches depending on specification.
Larger footprint with a focus on cabin space
The 2027 BMW iX5 60 measures 4,994 mm long with a 3,035 mm wheelbase, giving it slightly larger proportions than before. A luggage compartment offering between 655 and 1,850 litres is joined by a 53-litre storage compartment beneath the bonnet, adding extra practicality for charging cables or smaller items. The vehicle also retains a towing capacity of up to 2,700 kg.
Inside, BMW has simplified the dashboard with fewer visual layers while introducing materials including slate and glass trim. The redesigned cabin incorporates BMW Panoramic Vision, a free-cut central display, a new multifunction steering wheel, and an optional passenger display. Ambient lighting extends across the dashboard and doors, while standard sports seats and available massage, ventilation, and four-zone climate control aim to improve long-distance comfort.
Sixth-generation electric drivetrain
Power comes from dual electric motors driving all four wheels. The system produces 425 kW (578 hp) and 805 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.
Energy is supplied by a 141 kWh usable battery using BMW's new cylindrical cells. BMW estimates a WLTP driving range of between 645 and 845 km (401–525 miles), while DC charging reaches rates of up to 460 kW thanks to the new 800V architecture. Bidirectional charging capability is also included.
