2026 Vauxhall Grandland Electric AWD

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • First fully electric Vauxhall offered with all-wheel drive.

  • Dual-motor setup delivers 325PS with a claimed 311-mile WLTP range.

  • Chassis and aerodynamic revisions distinguish it from single-motor Grandland models.

A Vauxhall All-Wheel-Drive First

The 2026 Vauxhall Grandland Electric AWD, the company's first fully electric model with all-wheel drive, represents a technological milestone. With a clear emphasis on performance, traction, and dynamic stability, the AWD variant, which was revealed with complete pricing and specifications, broadens the Grandland EV lineup. Positioned above the standard single-motor version, it is offered in two trims—GS and Ultimate—while remaining priced below the UK’s £40,000 Expensive Car Supplement threshold.

Familiar Shape with Functional Refinement

Visually, the Grandland Electric AWD stays close to the established Grandland design, but subtle changes separate it from its front-wheel-drive siblings. Aerodynamically optimised inserts at the front and rear, along with specific 20-inch aero wheels, reduce drag to a quoted coefficient of 0.278, the lowest in the Grandland range. The proportions remain upright and balanced, with short overhangs and a planted stance that suits the addition of rear drive hardware. Signature elements such as the 3D Vizor grille, illuminated Griffin badge, and full-width rear “VAUXHALL” lettering maintain brand continuity rather than visual drama.

Dual Motors and Real-World Performance

Power comes from a dual-motor configuration pairing the existing 213PS front motor with a new 112PS unit driving the rear axle. Combined output stands at 325PS and 509Nm of torque, enabling a claimed 0–62 mph time of 6.1 seconds. Energy is supplied by a 73kWh usable NMC battery, delivering up to 311 miles of WLTP range. DC rapid charging at up to 160kW allows a 20–80 percent charge in 26 minutes, placing the Grandland Electric AWD squarely within current segment expectations rather than pushing technical boundaries.

Chassis Tuning Over Raw Numbers

Beyond straight-line performance, Vauxhall highlights changes beneath the body. Frequency Selective Damping is standard, using a dual hydraulic circuit to vary damping response depending on road surface and driving inputs. The setup attempts to provide stability at speed without compromising ride comfort by combining AWD-specific tuning for springs, anti-roll bars, steering, and ESC. Normal, AWD, Sport, and Eco are four selectable driving modes that change throttle response and power distribution, but their purpose is still functional rather than dramatic.
