2026 Opel Grandland Electric AWD
By Lorenzo Bianchi July 10, 2025
Opel debuts a new AWD flagship in the Grandland Electric range.
-
Globally competitive with rivals like Jeep Cherokee EV and Cupra Formentor VZe.
-
Visually strong: 3D Vizor front, bi-colour aero wheels, sporty stance.
Opel has officially thrown its hat in the global AWD electric SUV ring. The 2026 Opel Grandland Electric AWD looks ready to tussle with rivals like the Jeep Cherokee Electric and Cupra Formentor VZe. The identity is clear within seconds of scanning press images: the bold front 3D Vizor with illuminated Blitz logo and Edge Light tech headlights—over 50,000 micro-LED pixels—stand out on a clean but assertive face.
Stance-wise, it’s athletic. The 20-inch bi-colour aero wheels fill the arches nicely, and aerodynamic bumper inserts keep that drag coefficient at a slippery 0.278. It doesn’t just look slick, it carries proportions that mean business—with a longer body and broad shoulders, it immediately feels more planted than the standard Grandland. Again, subtle but purposeful styling gives it a noticeably stronger road presence.
A Sporty Electric Heart
Under the skin it’s equally interesting. A dual-motor AWD setup combines a 157 kW front motor with an 82 kW rear motor, delivering a combined 239 kW (325 hp) and 509 Nm. That translates to a crisp 0–100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds. Four driving modes—Normal, 4WD, Sport, Eco—adjust torque split and throttle feel, pushing 60/40 front/rear bias in Sport mode. Grip and responsiveness are dialed in enough to make it feel genuinely ready for varied terrain.
Battery Range & Charging
Opel pairs a 73 kWh usable battery with DC fast charging, taking you from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. That range stretches to around 501 km under WLTP. In the luxe ‘Ultimate’ trim, it still lands close to 489 km—impressive for a powerful AWD SUV.
Ride Feel & Suspension
What catches attention is the standard frequency selective damping. It uses dual hydraulic circuits to tune bump absorption and rebound independently—comfortable over potholes, tight enough for sporty moves. It allows the car to stay composed while cornering or braking, even at higher Autobahn speeds.
Market Position
At €59,990 in Germany for the ‘Ultimate’ trim (which includes a panoramic glass roof, Intelli-HUD, and 360° camera), it stakes a strong claim in Europe’s EV SUV class. That puts it in direct contact with similarly priced EV crossovers, and distinctly more dynamic than base EV SUVs offered by VW or Renault. It even gives a nod to U.S. Jeep fans hoping for a smart, electric AWD SUV.
