2026 Toyota LandCruiser Performance Hybrid

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • The LandCruiser Performance Hybrid pairs a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering approximately 341 kW (≈457 PS) and 790 Nm torque overseas (Middle East / Australia) while matching diesel’s 3,500 kg towing capability.

  • Hybrid version is offered in GR Sport and Sahara ZX grades, with five-seat configuration only due to packaging constraints of the hybrid system; third row removed.

  • The new hybrid retains Toyota LandCruiser’s traditional off-road hardware: full-time four-wheel drive, low-range transfer case, towing strength, and expected fuel efficiency improvement though still premium-price relative to diesel versions.

Performance Hybrid Powertrain

Toyota has introduced a “performance hybrid” system for the 2026 LandCruiser which combines a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The combined output overseas is approximately 341 kW (≈457 PS) and around 790 Nm torque.

The drivetrain includes full-time four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case to preserve off-road capability. Toyota has committed to ensuring towing capacity of the Performance Hybrid matches that of the existing 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel, 3,500 kg (braked).

Fuel economy is expected to improve over diesel only models under many driving conditions, especially where hybrid assist is used (such as low speed or towing). Exact figures per region remain pending.

Design and Exterior Character

Visually, the 2026 LandCruiser Performance Hybrid retains the LandCruiser 300 Series body shell, with hardware suitable for serious terrain: robust bumpers, full-size spare tyre, and underbody protection.

Grade-specific styling differentiates the GR Sport and Sahara ZX variants. For instance, the GR Sport uses darker trim elements (black mesh grille, black wheel arches, black wheels) and more aggressive visual cues. Sahara ZX features larger alloy wheels (20-inch in some markets) and more chrome or contrasting finish elements.

Exterior lighting, roof rails, and tow hooks remain features of off-road ready specification. Water wading capability overseas is reported up to 700 mm in some markets

Interior and Features

The Performance Hybrid’s interior is configured for five passengers. The battery and hybrid components prevent inclusion of the third-row seat in GR Sport and Sahara ZX trim levels.

Infotainment and comfort features are drawn from premium trim levels: a 12.3-inch touchscreen, multi-terrain monitor, panoramic view cameras, satellite navigation, 14-speaker JBL or equivalent premium audio in many markets. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats are expected in higher spec variants.

The running gear includes locking differentials (front, centre, rear in GR Sport in some markets), adaptive or variable suspension systems in premium models, hill-descent and other off-road assistive features

Off-Road and Capability

LandCruiser has a long heritage of off-road capability. The Performance Hybrid retains core attributes: full-time 4WD, low-range transfer case, locking centre differential, and important trail features.

Towing capacity remains at or near 3,500 kg (braked) across markets where that diesel spec was standard.

Payload, ground clearance, wading depth (700 mm in some overseas markets), skid plates and protection under body are elements carried through in GR Sport and Sahara ZX trims.
