2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Developed through extensive testing at the Nürburgring and in Japan's Super Taikyu Series.

  • Engine torque increases to 415 Nm while vehicle weight drops by 30 kg.

  • Features exclusive aerodynamics, suspension upgrades, and a dedicated two-seat cockpit.

Toyota has taken the GR Corolla further

The GR Corolla was already one of the more serious hot hatches on sale. The new 2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla pushes the formula into much more focused territory.

Revealed by Toyota Gazoo Racing, the GRMN version has been developed with a very specific goal in mind: creating a Corolla capable of handling the Nürburgring at full attack while maintaining the communication and predictability drivers expect from a road car. It's the latest product to emerge from Toyota's increasingly close relationship between motorsport and production-car development.

The result is a car that looks noticeably more aggressive before a wheel has even turned.

Every vent and wing serves a purpose

Looking at the prototype, the visual changes are impossible to miss.

The standard GR Corolla's muscular shape remains intact, but additional aerodynamic hardware gives the GRMN a far more purposeful appearance. A vented hood, deeply sculpted front fenders, side aero elements, and a large rear wing immediately signal that this isn't just another appearance package.

Toyota says every aerodynamic component was developed using lessons learned from Super Taikyu racing and refined through testing at the Nürburgring. Even the rear wing received detailed tuning, with engineers adjusting its angle in one-degree increments to determine the optimal setup.

The matte bronze wheels and Black Gravite paint finish complete a look that feels much closer to a race car than a typical hatchback.

Suspension developed where weaknesses appear

The Nürburgring isn't mentioned casually throughout Toyota's announcement. It sits at the center of the project.

According to Toyota, the circuit's rough surfaces and dramatic elevation changes exposed weaknesses that wouldn't necessarily appear elsewhere. That feedback shaped the GRMN's suspension package, which receives exclusive monotube dampers, revised bump-stop characteristics, and wider Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The steering calibration has also been revised, while the GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system benefits from dedicated tuning intended to improve stability during high-speed driving and corner entry.

It's a comprehensive package rather than a single upgrade.

More torque, less weight

Under the hood sits Toyota's familiar turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine.

Peak output remains unchanged at 224 kW, but torque climbs from 400 Nm to 415 Nm. Toyota focused on strengthening performance in the mid-range, particularly between 3,600 and 4,800 rpm, where strong corner-exit acceleration matters most on a circuit.

The GRMN also receives an intercooler spray system designed to maintain performance during sustained high-load driving.

Weight reduction was treated with equal importance. Rear seats have been removed entirely, transforming the GRMN Corolla into a dedicated two-seater and helping reduce overall weight by 30 kilograms compared with the standard model.

A cockpit designed around driving

Inside, the focus remains firmly on the driver.

A bespoke full bucket seat developed with input from professional racers sits at the center of the experience. Carbon-fiber trim, flocked dashboard surfaces, Alumite Red accents, and a GRMN-specific serial plate add exclusivity without distracting from the car's purpose.

Toyota plans to offer the GRMN Corolla in limited numbers across Japan, North America, and Australia. For enthusiasts who felt the standard GR Corolla still had room to grow, this appears to be the answer.
