2026 Subaru Trailseeker AWD Australian Version

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • Fastest production Subaru sold in Australia with 280 kW and a 4.5-second 0-100 km/h time.

  • Dual-motor Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 211 mm ground clearance support all-terrain driving.

  • Up to 533 km WLTP range with 150 kW DC fast charging capability.

Subaru Brings A Different Approach To Electric Adventure

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker AWD Australian Version arrives as the brand's largest and most capable electric vehicle yet. Joining the Solterra and the new Uncharted, the Trailseeker gives Subaru a three-model battery-electric lineup that spans multiple SUV segments while staying true to the company's long-standing focus on all-wheel-drive capability.

What immediately stands out is that Subaru hasn't treated this as just another electric SUV. Instead of prioritising urban styling or efficiency alone, the Trailseeker has been engineered around the idea that an EV should still be comfortable tackling rough roads, long distances, and weekend adventures.

Low, Wide Proportions Create A Distinctive Presence

The Trailseeker takes a different visual direction from many electric SUVs currently on sale.

Its long wheelbase, wide track, sculpted bonnet and relatively low roofline create a more wagon-like profile than the upright crossover shape common in the segment. Subaru says the low-mounted battery contributes to a lower centre of gravity, helping the vehicle appear more planted than its 211 mm ground clearance might suggest.

LED lighting is used throughout, while a near full-width rear light bar creates a distinctive signature at the back. Aerodynamic elements including a larger roof spoiler, rear side spoilers and carefully shaped rear bodywork have also been developed to improve airflow and help maximise driving range.

A Practical Cabin Built Around Everyday Use

Inside, the Trailseeker focuses on usability rather than visual excess.

A 14-inch high-definition touchscreen dominates the centre of the dashboard, supported by a 7-inch digital driver display positioned directly ahead of the steering wheel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with dual Qi wireless charging pads and a digital rear-view mirror.

Subaru has also retained physical controls for commonly used functions such as climate settings and drive modes, a decision many drivers will likely appreciate during everyday use.

The flat-floor EV architecture creates a spacious cabin layout, while cargo capacity reaches 609 litres in the standard AWD model. Touring variants add features including a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio system and ventilated front seats.

Fast Performance Meets Genuine Off Road Capability

Performance figures are impressive by Subaru standards.

The dual-motor powertrain produces a combined 280 kW, making the Trailseeker the fastest production Subaru ever offered in Australia. The company quotes a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 4.5 seconds.

A 74.7 kWh CATL lithium-ion battery provides up to 533 km of WLTP driving range in the standard AWD variant, while DC fast charging at up to 150 kW can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

Unlike many electric SUVs, the Trailseeker retains Subaru's off-road focus through Dual-Mode X-Mode, Grip Control, Driving Trajectory Prediction Control and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Combined with generous ground clearance, those systems are intended to provide confidence on gravel roads, muddy tracks and slippery terrain.

Positioned Above Solterra In Subaru's EV Range

The Trailseeker sits at the top of Subaru's Australian electric lineup as the most powerful and adventure-focused model in the range.

With its blend of long-range capability, rapid charging, practical cargo space and genuine all-wheel-drive credentials, it occupies a space few electric SUVs currently target. Competitors may offer strong performance or long range, but the Trailseeker's emphasis on off-road usability gives it a distinctive position in Australia's growing EV market.
