2026 CUPRA Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD expands the Leon range
The 2026 CUPRA Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD is officially heading to Australia, giving performance wagon enthusiasts something that's becoming increasingly difficult to find. Joining the refreshed Leon lineup introduced in late 2025, the new flagship combines the everyday practicality of a wagon with the sort of performance usually associated with dedicated hot hatches.
It also introduces all-wheel drive to the Australian Leon range for the first time, positioning itself as the most powerful Leon Sportstourer offered locally.
Familiar Leon styling with a more purposeful edge
The Leon's latest design language remains intact, but the VZx Sportstourer adds details that immediately separate it from the rest of the range. Forged 19-inch Hailstorm alloy wheels fill the arches, while cross-drilled performance brakes hint at what's underneath.
At the front, CUPRA's distinctive shark-nose design is paired with its triangular lighting signature, while an illuminated rear logo gives the wagon a recognisable appearance after dark. It's still unmistakably a Leon, though the longer roofline adds a little more presence without making the car feel oversized.
Cabin balances performance with everyday comfort
Inside, the focus isn't purely on speed. Leather-appointed upholstery, heated front seats with memory function and Dynamic Chassis Control all come as standard, alongside a powered tailgate that reinforces the wagon's practical side.
CUPRA also fits its Sennheiser premium sound system across the range, while buyers wanting something even more focused can choose the optional Extreme Package. That adds carbon-backed CUP Bucket seats trimmed in Enceladus Grey Seaqual and Dinamica upholstery, Matrix Ultra LED headlights, gloss black exterior details and larger Akebono six-piston front brakes.
Turbo power backed by intelligent all-wheel drive
The 2026 CUPRA Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD shares its drivetrain with the recently introduced Formentor VZx. Its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine develops 245kW and works with a seven-speed DSG transmission and CUPRA's all-wheel-drive system.
Performance is impressive for a family wagon, with the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h taking just 4.8 seconds. More importantly, the rear torque-splitting system actively distributes power between the rear wheels to improve traction and agility. CUPRA has even included a dedicated Drift Mode, something rarely associated with a vehicle that can also carry five passengers and a full load of luggage.
A performance wagon for a shrinking segment
High-performance wagons have become increasingly uncommon, yet they continue to attract a loyal following. That's exactly where the new Sportstourer fits. It offers generous cargo space, genuine five-seat accommodation and the flexibility to handle everything from weekday commuting to long road trips without giving up the engaging driving experience expected from a CUPRA.
Available to order from late June 2026 ahead of first Australian deliveries in September, the 2026 CUPRA Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD arrives as a distinctive alternative for drivers who want everyday usability wrapped in a genuinely quick performance wagon.
