2026 Nissan NX8

By Lorenzo Bianchi

  • NX8 becomes Nissan’s first model with an 800V platform and CATL 5C ultra-fast charging.

  • Offered in both pure-electric and range-extended versions.

  • Features new V-motion design language with 2.4-metre star-ring headlights.

Design and Proportions of the Vehicle

The 2026 Nissan NX8 marks a significant step in Nissan’s new-energy portfolio. Official images reveal a clean, elongated profile with proportions designed to sit at the upper end of the mid- to large-size SUV category. Measuring 4870 mm long, 1920 mm wide and 1680 mm high, with a 2917 mm wheelbase, the NX8 occupies a footprint close to established three-row electric crossovers.

Its exterior follows the brand’s newly evolved V-motion design language, though the treatment appears more technical than expressive. The standout element is a 2.4-metre continuous star-ring light strip, reportedly the longest in the industry, framing a flat illuminated Nissan badge and a stacked matrix-headlamp arrangement below. The surfaces along the side are intentionally minimal, built around hidden cuts and a low-contrast surfacing approach aimed at reducing visual noise. Wheel options will include 19-inch and 20-inch designs.

At the rear, the NX8 adopts 2,064-pixel OLED quantum light curtain taillamps, capable of customizable signals—a feature increasingly relevant in markets where vehicle-to-pedestrian communication is becoming regulated.

Performance and Powertrain Overview

Nissan will offer the NX8 with two distinct drivetrains, targeting a broad spectrum of new-energy buyers.

The range-extended version pairs a 1.5-litre turbo engine (109 kW) used exclusively as a generator with a 195 kW electric drive motor. The pure-electric version offers two configurations: 215 kW and 250 kW.

More significantly, the NX8 becomes Nissan’s first model equipped with an 800V high-voltage platform and CATL’s 5C ultra-fast-charging battery technology, making it the first overseas-brand NEV SUV to adopt this 5C capability. Nissan notes that the CATL lithium iron phosphate cells are developed, packaged, and produced to the brand’s global standards. Operating temperatures span –30°C to 60°C, indicating attention to cold-weather usability.

Key Features and Interior Impression

While interior images were not included in the material [Unverified], the vehicle’s technology brief does highlight a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. Equipped with LiDAR, the NX8 supports Highway Navigation Assist (NOA), City Navigation Assist (NOA) and full-scenario intelligent parking. The inclusion of LiDAR positions the model above typical mid-size EVs that rely solely on camera-radar systems.

The lighting hardware, aerodynamic shaping and high-voltage electrical architecture suggest a cabin configured for long-range cruising and daily-use convenience.

Market Positioning and Segment Context

The NX8 joins the Nissan N-series—alongside the N6 and N7—forming a more mature product matrix within Dongfeng Nissan’s new-energy strategy. It signals Nissan’s intention to accelerate its regional electrification pace, targeting a competitive band occupied by fast-charging EV crossovers and extended-range hybrids.

With its combination of 800V infrastructure, LiDAR-enabled driver assistance and dual powertrain choices, the NX8 positions itself as a technical statement in a rapidly consolidating segment.
