Nissan Gives The Kicks A More Mature Personality
The Nissan Kicks has been one of the brand's key electrified models in Japan, appealing to buyers who want SUV styling without moving into a larger segment. For 2026, Nissan has introduced an all-new generation, and the changes go well beyond a simple redesign.
The new Kicks G Grade sits at the top of the range and showcases many of the model's headline upgrades. Looking through the launch material, the impression is of a vehicle that has grown more confident. It still fits comfortably into the compact SUV category, but it now carries itself with a little more presence.
A Stronger Look From Every Angle
The exterior adopts a noticeably bolder appearance than before.
At the front, Nissan says the design was inspired by an American football helmet. The wide grille stretches across the fascia and is framed by distinctive lighting elements that emphasize the vehicle's width. On the G Grade, the bumpers receive premium gloss black finishes that give the SUV a cleaner and more upscale appearance.
The rear design follows the same theme. A rectangular black graphic spans the tailgate area, while full-width taillights help create a broader visual stance. The overall shape remains practical, though the styling feels sharper than the outgoing model.
Nissan is also introducing a new body color called Resonance Blue, developed to highlight the advanced character of the e-POWER system.
More Comfort Inside The Cabin
The cabin appears to have received just as much attention as the exterior.
Soft-touch synthetic leather and fabric materials are used across major touchpoints including the instrument panel, center console, and door trims. The layout itself is clean and uncluttered, giving the interior a more premium feel than many compact SUVs.
Space was clearly a priority during development. Nissan highlights class-leading knee room, headroom, and rear-seat width, while Zero Gravity seats are fitted not only to the front seats but also to the rear outboard positions. That's a detail not often found in this segment.
Depending on grade, buyers also receive dual 12.3-inch displays integrated into a single digital panel, along with NissanConnect infotainment featuring built-in Google services.
Updated Hybrid Technology Underneath
One of the biggest changes is hidden beneath the bodywork.
The new Kicks becomes the first model in Japan to receive Nissan's third-generation e-POWER system. At its core is a newly developed 5-in-1 powertrain unit that combines key components into a more compact and rigid package. Paired with a 1.4-liter dedicated power-generation engine, the system is designed to improve both fuel efficiency and cabin quietness.
Nissan is also introducing e-4ORCE electric all-wheel control technology to the Kicks for the first time. By managing motor output and braking forces together, the system aims to improve cornering response and ride comfort. Snow Mode is available on e-4ORCE models, adding extra confidence in winter conditions.
Positioned For Everyday Life
The all-new Kicks G Grade enters a crowded compact SUV market, but Nissan appears focused on balancing practicality with electrified performance.
Rather than chasing extremes, the vehicle combines everyday usability, modern technology, and improved refinement in a package aimed at buyers who spend most of their time navigating urban streets, commuting, and weekend trips.
