Mitsubishi Builds A Tougher Triton For Australia
The Mitsubishi Triton has steadily grown more competitive in Australia’s crowded ute segment over the last few years. The new 2026 Mitsubishi Triton Raider pushes that effort much further.
Developed in partnership with Australian engineering firm Premcar, the Raider arrives as the new flagship of the Triton lineup and focuses heavily on suspension tuning, off-road capability, and tougher visual presence.
Importantly, this is not just a cosmetic special edition.
Premcar handled a full second-stage manufacturing process at its Epping, Victoria facility, modifying the Triton GSR platform specifically for Australian road and off-road conditions. Mitsubishi says the goal was simple: improve confidence across all surfaces and driving environments.
That local engineering influence is probably the most interesting part of the entire project.
Australia’s ute market is brutally competitive, and buyers here usually notice quickly when suspension tuning feels generic or underdeveloped.
The Suspension Changes Are More Serious Than They Look
The Raider’s visual upgrades immediately stand out, though most of the real work happens underneath.
Premcar developed a unique front and rear suspension damper package specifically for the Raider, including front dampers using internal rebound springs to improve suspension control. Revised front springs and new jounce bumpers were also introduced to sharpen wheel management across rough surfaces.
The result, according to Mitsubishi, is improved wheel control across a broad variety of road conditions.
Ride height also increases noticeably.
The front gains a total 25 mm lift, while the rear rises by 15 mm through the upgraded wheel and tyre package. Front and rear track widths increase by 20 mm overall, giving the ute a visibly wider and more planted stance.
Premcar also selected Bridgestone Dueler AT002 all-terrain tyres paired with heavier-duty 18-inch ROH Assault alloy wheels finished in Brushed Bronze.
The wheel design alone changes the Triton’s appearance quite dramatically.
Exterior Styling Pushes The Triton Further
Visually, the Raider feels more aggressive than the standard Triton GSR without becoming overloaded with accessories.
Brushed Bronze detailing continues into the Sandstorm side decals, while Raider badging appears across the tailgate. Mitsubishi also sourced several styling components from its global accessories catalogue, including a Dark Warm Grey front garnish and upgraded side protection bars with red inserts.
The red accents are used carefully throughout the vehicle.
Strengthened underbody protection receives matching red finishes together with Raider identification lettering, while the black grille contrasts against a chrome Mitsubishi emblem.
It still looks recognisably Triton underneath, though the broader stance and lifted ride height give it a much more purposeful presence on the road.
Cabin Changes Stay Relatively Subtle
Inside, Mitsubishi keeps most of the GSR’s existing equipment intact.
Black leather upholstery with orange contrast stitching continues from the donor vehicle, though Raider-branded headrests and additional Raider badging across the centre console help distinguish the flagship variant.
The YAMAHA Performance Damper system introduced on the updated Triton GSR also remains fitted to the Raider. The chassis-mounted damper was designed primarily to improve NVH refinement and overall ride composure.

In a segment increasingly dominated by expensive lifestyle utes, the Raider feels like Mitsubishi’s clearest attempt yet to build something properly tailored for local buyers rather than adapting a global model afterward.
