Dual electric motors produce 325 kW and 700 Nm, sending the U9 EV from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
Its 102.2 kWh LFP battery provides a claimed 430 km WLTP range, with DC charging at up to 115 kW.
The electric ute can tow 3,500 kg braked, carries a 685 kg payload and provides a 236 litre front storage compartment.
The 2026 MG U9 EV is heading to Australia as MG's first all electric lifestyle ute, and Australia will also become the first market globally to receive it. Rather than focusing only on electric range, MG has built the specification around the familiar demands of a full size ute: towing, payload, storage and trips away from paved urban routes.
Full Size Ute Built Around Everyday Utility
MG describes the U9 EV as a lifestyle ute developed and tested for Australia, with enough flexibility for work, school runs and carrying bikes or camping equipment.
Its tub can accommodate a standard pallet, while a 236 litre frunk adds a useful second storage area away from the load bed. A hands free automatic tailgate is also fitted.
The numbers suggest capability was given priority. Maximum payload is 685 kg, while braked towing capacity reaches 3,500 kg. Unbraked towing is rated at 750 kg.
Dual Motor AWD Produces 700 Nm
Underneath sits a 102.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery feeding two electric motors. Combined output is 325 kW and 700 Nm, with all wheel drive standard. Despite its utility focus, the U9 EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
Four wheel Electronic Air Suspension is also standard. The supplied material does not detail ground clearance, suspension height adjustment or dedicated off road drive modes, so those capabilities remain [Unverified].
WLTP range is quoted at 430 km. The U9 supports 11 kW AC charging and up to 115 kW DC charging, with a 20 to 80 percent charge taking approximately 42 minutes.
Cabin Gets Dual 12.3 Inch Displays
Inside, MG has taken a more passenger-car approach. Two 12.3 inch displays sit in the cabin alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15 W wireless phone charging and an eight speaker JBL audio system.
Leather front seats are standard. The driver's seat adds heating, ventilation and massage, while the front passenger seat and steering wheel are heated.
V2L also gives the U9 another practical role. Up to 6.6 kW can be supplied through the external CCS2 outlet, with three additional 2.2 kW outlets inside the cabin for powering equipment.
For the Australian market, the U9 EV enters a still developing electric ute category with a specification aimed squarely at buyers who do not want electrification to remove towing and load carrying from the equation.
